My usual topics are about investment in stocks and options,however during last weekend, I attended a business management seminar and one of the topics is on working smart and I found it to be quite interesting and therefore would like to share it.The first one is keep focused on objectives and results-We are so engrossed with doing routine work that often lose sight of our goals and ultimately little is achieved. It is important that we must realise and realign and ask ourselves what is the objective? and why and when they are important and to find an effective way to achieve our objectives and goals.The second principal the speaker spoke was the challenge of environment that nothing will remains static forever, circumstances and people will change and one should be flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances like water tosses along its course.The third principal mentioned was to focus on what counts:The 80-20 rule, the example cited was a top 20 sales persons out of 100 sales staff that contribute 80% of the company revenue or 80 percent of the company business come from 20 percent of the customer. So smart worker will know that it is not the number of items you complete that determine your success but rather the completed items which generate result that will determine your success. So if you do not know what is the important items that contribute the 20 percent that will bring out the 80 percent results, it wise to find that outThe fourth principle is called time management. The key to better time management is to learn how to prioritize .Take time to think and plan activities in the order of their importance. The plan your day around your priorities are as follow:a) Make a daily list of things TO DO list and make sure they are all done at the end of the dayb) Stop procrastination and do not procrastinate no time as an excuse because it is a question of
priority.c) Learn to say no. If cannot say no because you have to please others at your own expense and put your own priorities for others, then you may end up doing a mountain of time-wasting activities. Learning to say no and remain pleasant is very difficult , but it is possible.d) Delegate. You cannot do everything by yourself and yet remain effective as a manager and achieve results. You must learn to delegate and extend your results from what you can achieve to what you can control.The final principle is to know yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, what you like and what you want , then set the goals to achieve it.
