We live in a world with opportunity at our fingertips. Information is one click away, career tracks change faster than a baby's diaper, we can connect instantly with others through phone and internet, and travel is cheap... $60 flights to the Gold Coast...hmmm...We have choice, we have knowledge, we have resources. With so much opportunity it is not surprising we find ourselves swamped with opportunities and struggling to make any choice at all!Too many choices can really hamper productivity. Not only are there so many choices to make, but how do we know which one is the right for us? A lot of time can be spent 'hmming' over whether to finish a report or choose a training course or surf the net for the latest deal on running shoes. The reality is that productivity starts with you. Your core priorities and key objectives, for the whole of your life, form the foundation on which you make choices for all your activities. You will know instantly whether an opportunity is really an opportunity that fits with your life plan, or simply a nice (though perhaps exciting!) distraction.Take Action: Choose your priorities carefully.Think about the different aspects of your life (work, finances, family, knowledge, self, home, romance, spirituality, friendship) Write down what you want your life to look like in each of these areas. Your projects and goals flow from this big picture view. From each goal/project flows a list of tasks with deadlines. Schedule your tasks as priorities. Any opportunities that come up that don't support these goals are simply distractions and you can say 'no' to them with confidence, knowing you are choosing the right path for your life design.Tip: Your number one priority should be this: HEALTH.It is the key to enjoying all your activities and having the energy to accomplish everything you set out to do. Without your health, it is difficult to feel joy, or happiness. A broken body, an illness, a disease severely inhibits even the most positive person from enjoying their life. Make HEALTH your number one priority. Everything else flows on from this.
