"We're on a one-game winning streak!" That's what freshman Dawan Boxley said after his basketball team, the Rutgers-Camden Pioneers, beat Bloomfield College 77 to 72, snapping a five-year, 117-game losing streak. Imagine losing every game for five years; how depressing that must have been for the team, the coach, and the entire school! But what a joy when that buzzer sounded and game 118 turned out differently.Despite the thick book of gloomy stats, the jokes, and the humiliating ridicule, at least one tongue kept repeating, "That was then. This is now." At least one person's brain imagined a victory celebration. Someone's heart soared upward, piercing the dark clouds to reach the sunshine. No doubt, after the game with Bloomfield, that person was running around, slapping pessimists' backs and shouting, "You see? I knew we could do it!" And game 119 had 10-fold more believers. What a difference one success makes! Have you ever experienced it? I have! Things keep going wrong that ought to go right. Your hopes get dashed again and again. You want to quit, but quitting would just pile another failure on the rest. You look for the light at the end of the tunnel, but the tunnel has caved in. Like Paul, you cry out, "What a wretched person I am! Who will deliver me?" Like the psalmist, you scream, "Where are you, God? Will you forget me forever?"Then a blessing comes. Not necessarily a big one, but big enough for you to recognize the stark contrast between its sparkle and all the dullness around it. "Thank you, Lord!" you whisper. "I'm sorry I doubted you. Please forgive me for being bitter."So begins your one-game winning streak. Like the Apostle Paul, you can say, "We are hard pressed, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed" (2 Cor. 4:8-9). And if you know that such is the pattern, you can watch for the blessing, prepared to receive its turn-around power. For us Christians, the blessing is always present. Jesus Christ's love and sacrifice enriches us, enlightens us, and empowers us day by day, even in the darkest tunnels of life. God has so arranged our destiny that if we don't quit, if we don't give up, we'll be winners.* * *Copyright ©2006 Steve SingletonSteve Singleton has written and edited several books and numerous articles. The Emmaus Journal ~ Quietness
Author : C.L. Mareydt
The Emmaus Journal
QuietnessAs a state of being, quietness is in direct contrast to the World we occupy and
the American Lifestyle altogether. The perpetual noise index is at its highest peak
within our structured cities that now seem to stretch into endless waves of
suburbia. There literally seems to be the hum-buzz of noise in every scenario
imaginable and it tenaciously seems to interfere with all efforts of finding any
outside quietness. The perception of quietness, as a relative state of being, must then lie within the
mind and soul of each man, woman, and child. Perhaps to become a comfort zone
to some, only to be a torture to others. The dividing line seemingly depends upon
the consciousness of each human being. Quietness may be longed for by a few only
to be shunned by many. Because quietness is often pushed away in blatant
rejection within our social orders today from the young to the old; quietness as its
own identity has become more illusive than ever.In our modern everyday lifestyles we have opted to invite the absence of
quietness instead. Even Nature's quiet harmonies are surreptitiously defaulted by
our own projections of life. The natural state of Nature and its peaceful quietness
has become secondary within our demanding society. For it seems that the newest
of man's creative inventions have surmounted a noisy assault against what was
once highly esteemed as our haven's of quietude. Unmistakably, there still remains
a law of quietness, and that law is a self contained universal law unto itself.
Therefore this law is only upheld by those who might see it in the purity and light
of its Creator.Quietness, after all, is possible to find in the middle of a busy bustling crowd.
Quietness can also be found in the mist of towering city buildings, as well as in the
solitude of a nursery room with a crying baby; or on the knoll of a hill far away from
all humanity. One can even find quietness in the sanctuaries of commonness, or in
the many galleries of daily boredom. For truly, quietness is found in the heart of it's
possessor. The awesome grandeur of quietness holds uncharted territories which defers to
each individual who adventurously searches. Our Creator purposely graced
quietness as a refuge to be found. It can be found outwardly and also inwardly,
within the depths of our own being, if we will but seek. Our spirit will know the
paths of quietness as our feet set upon its coarse. For the roads less traveled in
quietness are the very ones that enlighten the soul. Quietness never despises its
seeker and forever invites the aware. Like a cooling breeze on a hot summery day,
quietness lingers just long enough to be noticed. Once noticed quietness beckons
to be honestly recognized in appreciation. For in the appreciation comes a joy in
knowing that such quietness is exactly what the heart has yearned for and the spirit
greets. For quietness does come to those who patiently seek. Not knowing its time
of arrival, not expecting its departure, quietness will come.Oh, surely I have caught thee
though no capture can it be
for quietness is not mine
nor can I send it to thee. But remains the invisible gift
that seems to ebb and flow
for quietness you see my friend
tis revealed within the soul.Till in absence of myself
to bequeath a portion divine
there needs to be willingness of soul
swept into quietness sublime.tgy

The Author Within You!
Author : Leanda Wood
I always had an active imagination when I was young. I hated school, and would pass the time away day- dreaming about things I should not even have known about at such a young age. I used to make up stories in my head, that would always have me as the centre of attention, like collecting an Oscar for a Hollywood film that I had starred in, or recovering from a major operation or accident. I think I was like this because I was a shy kid who lacked a lot of confidence. It was no different when I started work. Those long boring days stuck in an office with bitchy overweight girls with no meaning to their life apart from bingo on a Friday night and watching Eastenders with their doubly overweight boyfriends. I always dreamed about writing a book or acting. When I realised that I was far to old to be dreaming such girly things such as acting, I decided that I would become famous for my imagination instead. I decided to write a book.I thought about it long and hard. What do I write about? What era will it be set in? What will be the background basis for the book? Who would want to read a book from the likes of a person like me? I always liked reading about the Second World War. I had a morbid fascination surrounding the rise of Hitler and the Holocaust. Don't get me wrong, I am by no means a Nazi supporter, and I totally disagree with the treatment and atrocities he handed out to the poor Jews. Nether the less it did interest me, so after much pondering, I decided to write a story about the Holocaust.I based it on a young Jewish girl growing up in occupied Poland during the Nazi invasion. I never believed for one minute that it would be published, but after submitting my manuscript to quite a few online publishers, I finally got accepted. I could not believe that little old me would become a successful writer. My book is due for release on 3rd March 2005 and is for sale at most leading bookstores, including my publishers www.publishamerica.com , you see anybody can write, but it takes confidence and you have to believe in yourself. I never did for so many years. It was only my Husband telling me how good my story was that I decided to give it a go, and believe me I am just a regular girl with no silver spoon in her mouth, I just plucked up the courage to do something to change my life for the better. The moral of my humble little story is, don't let doubt and the lack of confidence hold you back. Give it go, for you never know where your courage may lead you.

Money's Sad Lack of Intrinsic Value
Author : Terry Mitchell
A good number of my columns deal with finances and money-related issues. Obviously, these are issues we have to confront everyday. However, I have to try to keep in mind the fact that money has only a limited value in our lives. Many of us, including myself, often lost sight of the fact that money is a means to an end, not an end in itself. It has no intrinsic value. It is only worth the benefit or enjoyment that a person can get from it. If someone is unable to glean any benefit or enjoyment from the things it can buy, then it is worthless to that person. We all know (or at least we should know) that money can't buy happiness, but I'd like to go a few steps further in demonstrating how money lacks intrinsic value.I have trouble getting excited about my retirement that may or may not occur 25 years from now. A few weeks ago, I received my annual statement from the Social Security Administration, informing me about how much my monthly benefit would be for each of the following scenarios: working until age 62, age 67, age 70, and upon becoming disabled. I wasn't impressed with those figures. Also, so what if I might have hundreds of thousands of dollars in my various retirement savings accounts by then? I'm not impressed with those figures either. In fact, I wouldn't be impressed by any dollar figure. The two main reasons that I can't get excited about retirement only serve to highlight money's lack of intrinsic value.First, I know that, not even counting inflation, time devalues money for almost every individual. Here's an example of what I mean. At my current age, I can now afford most of the things I wanted at age 20 but could not afford. However, I have not gone out and bought them because now I no longer want them. At age 60, I'll probably be able to afford most of the things I want now but cannot afford. But, when that time comes, will I still want them? I doubt it. I fear that when I finally reach retirement, I'll no longer be interested in spending any money on anything except the basic needs of life like food, clothing, and shelter. While it's important to be able to afford those things in your twilight years (many seniors can't), I can't gleefully anticipate retirement to live a life of mere existence that all the money in the world can't remedy. In honesty, no amount of money of can sufficiently make up for the damage done, both physically and psychologically, by the aging process. The old saying goes that "youth is wasted on the young." Well, I'm going to add the following corollary: "High incomes and large bank accounts are wasted on the old." It's too bad we can't have our retirement (along with the retirement money) when we are young and can still enjoy it. But such are the consequences of money's lack of intrinsic value.Second, all the money in the world could not adequately compensate a person for being disabled, sick, or dead. Don't the people who are so excitedly looking forward to retirement realize they could die or lose their health before (or shortly into) their retirement? That has happened to countless numbers of people and continues to do so every day.Wouldn't it be nice if someone could guarantee you that you would live to be 100 and stay in as good of health as you are in now? Unfortunately, no one will be ever be able to give you that guarantee. Obviously, none of us have even a minute more of life promised to us. However, the longer the time period we plan to hold on to our money, the higher the chance that something will happen to us before it can do us any good.By the way, money's lack of intrinsic value is the main reason you should never put it ahead of your health. However, there are many people who do exactly that. Some will work themselves to death or ruin their health just to make a few extra dollars. They apparently don't realize that money and possessions become meaningless when and if you lose your health (or your life). I speak from experience on this issue. Nine years ago, I was diagnosed with stage three cancer. I was sure I wasn't going to make it, even after I was told by the doctors that the chemotherapy was destroying the cancer. It's amazing how all of my material possessions that I had thought so much of suddenly became so meaningless to me when I had lost my health and thought I was going to die. True, money can be used to buy the best health care possible. However, even the best health care money can buy can't always restore you to good health or even save your life.Of course, a lot of people save money over the course of their lives, not to spend it for themselves, but to leave it their children and grandchildren. That's great, although I've always believed that buying large insurance policies is a much more cost effective way for people to enrich their heirs. Regardless of whether you leave your heirs money in the bank, property, possessions, large insurance payouts, or all of the above, whatever they receive will be just as intrinsically challenged as it was for you.The bottom line is that, while we all must earn as much money as we reasonably can and save responsibly for retirement and other events in our lives, we must also keep it in perspective and keep our priorities straight. Perhaps the use of more of our financial resources to help others who are less fortunate is one way to keep our focus in the right direction. At any rate, we should never overemphasize money's importance or put it above things that actually do have intrinsic value - things like our families, our physical and mental health, and our spiritual well-being.Terry Mitchell is a software engineer, freelance writer, and trivia buff from Hopewell, VA. He also serves as a political columnist for American Daily and operates his own website - http://www.commenterry.com - on which he posts commentaries on various subjects such as politics, technology, religion, health and well-being, personal finance, and sports. His commentaries offer a unique point of view that is not often found in mainstream media.

Inspiration From Other People - Is It Worth Listening To A Film Star?
Author : John Watson
Yesterday, I listened to an interview with Michael York, the film star. I listened half-heartedly at first and then with fascination. By the end of the conversation I had discovered at least one inspiring truth i.e. It is well worth listening to other people without prejudging what they can teach you.It is amazing how much other humans can teach us. But if we don't believe that they can teach us something, we will not listen to them nor will we read their books or listen to their audios or watch their videos and DVD's. We will miss out on huge amounts of valuable information.Michael York (D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers) went to the USA about 30 years ago and has lived there longer than he lived in the UK.He was not tempted to join other UK actors like Oliver Reed in alcoholic and drug excesses. He could see no sense in not being at his best. Life is too interesting. He now lives in California with his American wife where it is easy to live a healthy lifestyle. He asks: "Why wait until you get ill and then go to a doctor to clean up the mess? Why not take preventive measures to keep you in optimum shape? We take care of our cars; why not our own bodies?"He takes herbs and vitamins and a chiropractic treatment once a week. He does not believe in treating the head (or mind) without taking the body into account. He prefers a holistic approach. He has a thoughtful faith. "I have a faith but not a faith that wears a label. It's an amalgamation of all sorts of influences. I was raised in the Church of England and was brought up with the beauty of the English Bible. It never leaves you but I get resentful at fundamentalist Christianity when it becomes my God and not your God."Agnosticism is part of his amalgamation of influences: "There's nothing we can be sure of until we pass into the next dimension."He was very impressed by a comment from his friend Peter Ustinov: "You know, we are united by our doubts and divided by our convictions."
York comments: "In the world today, that is so true".When he was asked "Do you believe in an afterlife?", he gave a fascinating and inspiring reply:"If you get into the study of health and the body you find out that we are all energetic organisms. The whole world is a compact of different energies. It seems quite plausible that there is a different sort of energy operating after life""Do you meditate?"
"I have tried to meditate but I am a little impatient I confess. I do listen to classical music, if I can, all day. That is an equivalent of meditating. Somehow those great rhythms do wonderful things to your mind and body."I learned a lot from Michael York yesterday about health, meditation and life after death but the greatest lesson of all was:Have enough faith to listen to other people, whoever they are, and to read their books. You might learn something worth learning! You might even be excited and inspired. You don't have to agree with everything other people say but at least listen to their views and you may well hear something you have never heard before or have never heard expressed so well before. If you have a stack of books you have not read or a stack of videos you have not watched just start reading and watching. You might be amazed at what you will learn!Even if you have read the books before or watched the videos before, read and watch them again. It is surprising how much valuable information we forget. We all need reminding and inspiring again and again.John Watson is an award winning teacher and martial arts instructor. He has recently written two books about achieving your goals and dreams. They can both be found on his website http://www.motivationtoday.com along with a daily motivational message. The title of the first book is "36 Laws To Ignite Your Inner Power And Realize Your Dreams Now!"The book can be found at this URL:

Meatballs: Friend, or Foe?
Author : Darlene Arechederra
We all have those moments, don't we? We're right in the middle of a project, and it's simply not going well.Like me, you may find yourself becoming irritated, wishing you could find an easier way to get the job done (or even eliminate it completely.)I'd settle for a tool that would make quick work of it. Life is just too precious to spend time being irritated.I found myself in this position a few weeks ago while making meatballs.Not-So-Nice ThingsNow, I grew up on a small farm out in the country. And on a farm you learn to handle lots of things. Creatures. Animals. Newborns. And occasionally, some not-so-nice things. But, even wearing gloves, I absolutely can't stand my hands mussing about in raw hamburger. It reminds me of the slimy feel of a worm that's going on the hook for bait.It leaves me with an uncomfortable, fluttery feeling in the pit of my stomach. Not at all how I, as a woman, want to feel. The JourneyNow, keep in mind, this journey into the Land of the Meatball is only beginning. We've still got to scoop the burger out of the bowl. Scrape it off the spoon. And only then can we finally roll the critters into meatballs. Scoop. Scrape. Roll. Over and over. It's like waiting for that worm to do it's job of luring in a tasty fish. It's a time thing. But, just as fresh catch is always a nice treat, I know these meatballs will be worth waiting for when the work's finished. They are serving a special purpose.Let me share it with you.The StrategyBecause it's so flexible, I stir up several batches of meatloaf mix every other month. I then convert them into meatballs, cooking all the batches that day. Some go for spaghetti. Others I'll freeze for meatball sandwiches or Swedish Meatballs in cream sauce. If I'm feeling lazy (smile) I simply make several meatloafs. So why are these meatballs so important in the scheme of things? Because they keep us from eating out. They can be frozen after being cooked, which saves me huge amounts of time. We make six to eight meals out of them.We could easily spend a minimum of $18 per meal eating out. So in money terms, it saves us an average of $126 each time I make these meatballs in a batch. You see, it's part of how I save money. It's just that important to me.But surely there's an easier way to get the job done! What Is It That Would 'Really' Help?I donned my thinking cap...Now, I knew what I wanted. A scoop large enough to make it worth digging into the bowl. Light enough to avoid aggravation of a mild carpal tunnel problem. Something that would automatically slide the mix out. And lastly, something naturally round to alleviate the tedium of rolling into balls.I was on a Mission! After several days of searching with no luck, I considered inventing such a tool. I changed my mind after calculating how many meatballs I'd need to make to earn my money back on the patent. And then . . . it happened. The lightbulb clicked. The earth moved (or was that me, jumping for joy?) But I digress. The SolutionI had found the perfect tool! And one that carries with it such sweet memories: an ice cream scoop. You know the type. As you squeeze the lever, a small piece of steel rotates inside, scooping the food out along the way. Could it get any easier than this?Admittedly, I paid quite a price for this stainless steel ice cream scoop. But what a relief! And you know what? I realized I had been tolerating this problem for way too long now!Can you relate to what I'm talking about here? Have you found your own tasks difficult due to lack of helpful tools?Take Time to ConsiderIf you find yourself becoming irritated while doing a chore or task, stop for a moment. Consider which part of it is bothering you. Or what is more difficult than it needs to be.Begin a tool list. As you think of items that would make your life easier, jot them down.Brainstorm ideas. Have friends or family members experienced the same frustrations? How To Be a Champion in Your Life
Author : Sopan Greene
Are you left with inspiration but no action after hearing, reading, and watching stories about other people who are successful? If so, you're not alone. I've got a question for you: Why watch Oprah when you can be on Oprah instead? Don't you see different guests on her show every day? They're people just like you. They didn't start out on Oprah, they ended up there and it wasn't by luck either. They changed their lives to get there.Wouldn't you like to experience some of that success for yourself? It's not difficult at all. You just need to learn how to redirect the thoughts and energy you're using already. You're getting results, but they may not be the results you really want. What Does being a Champion in your life mean to YOU?Being self-employed?Making a certain amount of money per year?Living in the city that you really want to live in?Having more free time?Having more vacation time with your family?Living in your dream home?Having effective communication with your family?Having the relationship you've always wanted with someone who understands you?Having free time for volunteer work or community service?Having a family?Having a deep sense that you're making a contribution to the worldVisiting all the cities and countries you've wanted to visit?Being able to hire a nanny or cleaning person?Being the best mother, daughter, father, son or friend you can be?Driving the car you've always wanted to drive?Having the furniture to fill your dream home?Writing the book you've always wanted to write?Creating the inventions in your head?Taking action on the ideas in your head that never get out of your head?Being able to hire an interior designer?Having the wardrobe you've always wanted?Having more closet space?Having the free time to dream and imagine?Meeting a famous person you've always admired?Having the financial resources to contribute to people and causes you love?Having a personal trainer?Getting and staying on track with your diet?Having a lean toned body?Learning what you've always wanted to learn?Going to school to get a degree?Being the best when you do your favorite activities?Doing the things you've always wanted to do but haven't done?Whatever it is for you, you can have it!Maybe this is hard for you to believe because you aren't satisfied with the life you're living today. Well, your present circumstances don't determine your future. We have plenty of examples to show us that this isn't true.Think of where these people started in life and how they've ended up: Bill Gates, Stevie Wonder, Helen Keller, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Eckhart Tolle, Anthony Robbins, Steven Speilberg, Julia Roberts, Colonel Sanders, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi (the obvious choices), most professional athletes, most professional musicians and so many others. They all started out as babies with nothing but personal passion to fuel them on to creating wonderful lives. They all took different roads to climb their individual mountains of success, but they all got there by being focused and by taking action consistently.Every successful person you have ever known or heard of has had help to create effective results in their lives. They all got where they wanted to go in life. It just took some support. Olympic athletes, businessmen and women, parents, students, salespeople, writers, artists ÷ anyone can have what they want.If you don't have enough belief in yourself or you don't have enough support from those around you, then having a coach or mentor can make the difference for you. Do We Really Want to Be There Yet
Author : Roy Klienwachter
The beauty in creation is in the process, in every single step along the way.A lot of attention is given a thing that is under construction or in the building stages. The activity around the construction of a new high-rise, an ocean liner or dam is immense. Volumes of energy and thought are concentrated on the process of building something physical from only a thought.A picture of the finished project is in the minds of the workers and it is in fact already built before construction in their minds eye and its creator is working backwards from the finished item to the beginnings of construction. The workers are simply going through the motions of creating it one step at a time. The excitement, the drama the high energy comes from the process of creating and it is the same energy that is in and around sculpting, painting, writing music and dancing, starting a new business or the birth of a child. From one's imagination new energy is formed around bringing something into physical reality. You experience this feeling everyday with the anticipation of a new job, a vacation, a new relationship the act of physical sex, the joy of birth or any creative thought. Life is moving and change is the constant and when you embrace those things you are aware that you are alive. To create excitement in your life start planning, start moving, get accelerated, and get involved. Breath in the new air, tell everyone and receive their energy as well, start to move and don't waste a moment procrastinating. Nothing gets people more excited than a new project whether they are for it or against it. Even in the stillness of the observer, there is movement and excitement beginning to build up.A relationship dies once you have become familiar with it, unless it is constantly changing and growing and you are growing with it.Death itself is another beginning, not an end and it is a new project, there is always excitement and energy around death. Nothing creates more urgency than the knowledge that you are going to die or someone close to you is very near death.Life is a constant flow of energy from the cradle to the grave. Life is movement, always changing always creating something new. Life is not found in waiting for it to happen, but in the process of making it happen and it is not about being in the moment, but in moving from one moment to another.Life is what is already happening around you while you are waiting for it. There is nothing in your world that is static, it's always in a state of flux, and even a rock is moving it you look close enough. Inner space is just as much alive as outer space. If you truly want to feel alive, then do something, anything just move and then react to it and in that moment you will know that you are alive.Roy E. When Self-Growth becomes Self-Sabotage
Author : Marie-Pier Charron
Many of us invest quality time and energy in our personal development. We buy inspiring books, sometimes with the workbooks or journals that complement them. We discuss psychology with our friends, or we look for friends with whom we can have open discussions on the subject. There is activity in our mind—at times, a little bit of confusion. We encounter so many different lines of thoughts, so many tools, so many exploratory exercises we can do. It's as if we were in the middle of a dense, majestic forest...Then—maybe it happened to you—you reach a point where you don't feel satisfied anymore after reading the hot new self-improvement book... The workshop just feels like another workshop ... Philosophical discussions feel more like empty calories ... It's not that your head is full: it's more that you are hungry. You are hungry, because you have tasted—sometimes chewed—the wisdom you have read or heard, but you haven't digested and integrated it. Don't we benefit from relaxing and taking a break after a good meal?I think none of us have ever seen, written in the back of a book, "You don't need to read me; all the wisdom is within you". No publisher would be so open-minded (or masochistic). Besides, we are the ones who have to figure out for ourselves how we can best use the resources available to us; how we can use them to connect to our own inner wisdom, inspirations, intuitions. Other people's insights are guiding lights. We don't need a zillion guiding lights, in fact we get lost if we are surrounded by too many of them - they point in too many different directions. Their role is simply to show us possibilities, which we can consider. Once we have chosen something to be our truth, we close the book, we turn the light off, and we start to trust our own inner guidance. It only needs one simple concept to drastically change our life. It can be, "Love yourself", it can be, "Be all that you can be", or "Fear is an illusion"... But none of these makes real sense, no concept will truly transform our life, if it's not integrated in every cell of our body, if it doesn't feel as tangible as if it came from us in the first place. We keep reading and listening to teachers, and "experts", but who's the best expert, when it comes to you, or when it comes to me?I believe nothing in self-growth has to be hard and complex. You can sit in silence, you can look inside yourself with wide open eyes, and you will "see" or feel the guidance you need at that exact moment. It's not always exactly what we want to hear—in fact, often it's not, so we refuse to accept it—but sometimes that's what self-growth is about, that's what we really need to bring ourselves to the next level. That being said, it's easier sometimes to face a book, or another person, than it is to truly face and accept ourselves. And let's acknowledge the fact that we often prefer complicated answers and techniques!"Self-sabotage" is a strong word... What I tried to convey with the provocative title is that, at some point, the energy we dedicate to self-growth resources may better serve us (in terms of self-growth) if we invest it elsewhere: in introspection... in basic down-to-earth actions... in meditations... or maybe in fun things...
Sometimes we have an endless to-do list that causes us major stress, and instead of simply doing what must be done, we will read a book on relaxation, do yoga, or else... Sometimes we are a little gloomy, we just need to loosen up, laugh, and have fun... but we will attend a workshop on a subject we think will provide us answers. Not that it won't! Obviously, none of this is "bad". Sometimes it may even be the most constructive thing to do... but what I'm highlighting here is that sometimes, it may not. Finally, I guess my point is: "self-growth can be everything, you have access within yourself to all the wisdom there is, and you are magnificent beyond what you can imagine".About The Author: Marie-Pier Charron is the editor of a monthly e-newsletter filled with coaching tips and powerful self-growth strategies.
Stay Inspired
Author : Jay Monteer
Two years ago I was in a wheelchair and told I would be paralyzed for life. Today I can jog on a treadmill. How did this happen?Well, I can't tell you how it happened exactly. My recovery truly was a miracle. But what I can tell you is how important it was for me to stay focused and inspired throughout my recovery.People tell me my story has inspired them. Let me tell you how to find this inspiration within your own lives.(1) Believe anything is possible. To overcome obstacles, you have to see your way through to the other side. You have to visualize yourself overcoming them. Draw inspiration from that vision.(2) Stay focused. Obstacles are not a one-time event in life. When you try to get out of a difficult situation, no doubt you'll encounter one obstacle after another along the way. Expect it, and discipline yourself to stay focused. Never lose sight of your goals.(3) Resist the urge to sleep five minutes longer. Who hasn't hit the snooze button several times in a row, only to realize those extra few minutes of sleep don't really help? Resist the urge to sleep longer than you need. Life is short enough. Think about what you can do to improve your life if you add a few minutes to each day. Get out of bed, face your obstacles and move closer to your goals with every waking moment.(4) Don't stop just because someone tells you to stop. I can't tell you how many times people told me not to get out of my wheelchair, not to take so many steps, not to balance on one foot, not to try running without a leg brace. But I knew I had to do those things or I'd be in that wheelchair the rest of my life. Your life might be filled with obstacles and your progress toward your goals might be slow. Don't worry about that. Just realize that by moving ahead when others urge caution, you'll reach your goals faster than you would have otherwise.(5) If you're going to worry about something, worry about improving. People love to worry. Sometimes worrying seems like our favorite pastime. The next time you worry about something, ask yourself what all that worrying is really accomplishing. Then ask yourself how many positive things you could accomplish in the amount of time you spend worrying. When you focus on positive ways to overcome your difficulties, you move closer to a life free from worry. If you're going to worry about anything, worry about doing more of that!(6) Believe you can control your situation. Though problems seem to arise despite our attempts to keep them away, we still control our own lives. You might not believe that. If you don't, it's because you've trapped yourself in your situation and can't see your way out. You always have the ability to move yourself forward. You just need to believe in your ability and take positive steps to control your situation. It's not a lack of control that keeps you from moving forward. It's your inability to see that power within you.(7) Know that once you give up mentally, you're beat. If you think you can accomplish something, you will. If you think you won't accomplish something, you won't. When I was wheelchair-bound, I suffered a lot of pain and frustration, a lot of wishing that things had been different. But not once did I believe I wouldn't walk again. Not once! I truly believe God helped me get out of that wheelchair precisely because I never doubted I would walk again. Don't lose your hope, not even for a minute. You have nothing better to do in this life than to try to overcome your obstacles and reach your goals.(8) Remember you have one life. Regardless of your beliefs about afterlife and other types of spiritual existence, you're here right now, in this life, and you only have one shot at it. Why not make the most of it? Don't waste this life dwelling on problems and hurdles and what-ifs and what-could-have-beens. Make the most of this life and the situation you're in. Spend your time making improvements wherever you can. What could be better than that?Whenever I speak to an audience or give a radio interview, people tell me they thought their lives were tough until they heard about my situation. That's not the point. It doesn't matter if you think my situation is worse than yours, or vice versa. What matters is that I believed I would walk again, and now I can walk. Whatever difficulties you have, believe that you can get through them and you will.Find inspiration, hold onto it and stay inspired. What could be more important than that?About The AuthorJay Monteer worked in law enforcement until an accident in September 2001 put him on disability. An Unquenched Thirst

Direct Answers - Column for the week of September 9, 2002I'm engaged to a wonderful, warm and loving man whom I've been with for four years. We have always had mismatched libido. I would prefer to have sex nearly every day, but he would choose once a week or less.Early in our relationship we fought about this issue. He let me see that if I asked for sex much more than he wanted, he felt diminished as a man. So I've adjusted by limiting myself to only rarely initiating sex. He's adjusted in offering me more verbal and nonsexual physical affection each day.Lately I'm worrying this issue will spell disaster down the road. Even as I've accustomed myself to having infrequent sex, there has been no adjustment to my libido. I find myself daily fantasizing and writing explicit stories (starring him).I don't hide these things from him, but I mostly keep quiet about them because I fear he feels my sexuality strange. Is this type of problem a deal-breaker when it comes to marriage?GeorgianaGeorgiana, you are talking about making permanent something which isn't adequate or acceptable now. One Night Stand

Direct Answers - Column for the week of February 24, 2003I met someone over the weekend who is very, very famous. I was volunteering at a sports function and his sister was working the function. As the day progressed, she and I really hit it off. She asked me to take drinks to the suites upstairs. Someone asked who I was, and from there no one would leave me alone.I was told someone in the next suite likes me. I went over and this guy, let's call him "D," just smiled but was so shy. He had to go on stage and speak, but his friend said for me to stay. D's sister's best friend took me aside to let me know D really likes me because I am different and he thinks I am sexy.Okay, let's hurry this along. We all hung out, but D didn't talk to me at all in the suite. We went to a club. At the club D was dancing and hanging all over this girl from the big brewery, the one that sponsors all these events. I thought to myself, he sure as heck isn't shy with her.I admit I had quite a few beers, but I made sure not to drive. I'm big on that. Well, we went to someone's house, and D comes up to me and starts talking. We ended up kissing and having sex. When I woke up, D was downstairs. I felt terrible, partly because of the beer, but then because of what I did.I went to get D. I wanted to see how the chemistry was without alcohol. We had sex again. When I figured it was time to leave, I got dressed. He sat down next to me but didn't really talk. I wanted him to ask for my number, but I wasn't going to give it to him unless he asked. He asked. That was last Saturday, less than a week. D travels 38 weekends a year. His time is limited. He has girls all over him. What is your perspective on sex like this? Is it possible he will even call me?VannaVanna, D is anything but shy. He is lazy, though. He knows that as part of a famous person's retinue, he doesn't have to make an effort to get girls to go to bed with him. One woman said you were "different." What she meant was you are not the girl from last weekend or the girl from the weekend before.D thought you knew how this worked. The morning after you're supposed to swipe a road jacket and one or two other souvenirs, then leave. Since you didn't seem to get it, he asked for your phone number as a way of getting rid of you.It is never to a woman's advantage to get drunk and have sex with men she doesn't know. Life is a Mystery...or is it?
Author : Vivian Gordon
Being the last of three daughters, I was a suprise to my
parents who were being very cautious about not having any
more children. At the age of 30 my mother found out she
was expecting her third child, and not very happy about it at
that. All my life growing up I was constantly reminded how I
was not planned for and consequently not really wanted. But
thank goodness I was a good baby and actually turned out
to be the best thing that ever came along. But, having this
thought in the back of my head, it kind of formed the way I
grew up. I actually believed that I was a "mistake" and
therefore should not have been born in the first place.
Where do misfits fit in? I know that my mother did not mean
to instill these thoughts in me but they did have a major role
in my self confidence. It wasn't until a couple of years ago actually that I came to
realize that I was not a mistake, and even though I came as
a big surprise to my partents, I was called forth to become
something by a God who knows us even before we are
formed in our mother's womb.I now know that life is not a secret, God has a plan for each
and every one of us. How do I know this you may ask. Once I
became saved, I started getting strong in the Word of God
and He has answers to every question we may ever have.
The answer to what my purpose is and yours too for that
matter can be found in the book of Ephesians.Ephes. 1:4 According as He hath chosen us in Him before
the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and
without blame before Him in love.Ephes. 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of
children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good
pleasure of His will. This tells us that He chose us even before He formed the
earth so that we would be holy and set apart to fellowship
with Him. He has us picked out to become heirs of His
kingdom through His Son Christ should we choose to be
His child through adoption. As He created the first man and woman in His own image,
He commanded them to be fruitful and multiply and have
dominion over every living creature on earth. Just what is the
image of God? His image is shown through all His
attributes which are Love, Gentleness, Kindness, Humility,
Unselfishness...all that is good and holy. As God is the
trinity, defined as three seperate entities, so He also created
man in three parts, the body, mind and spirit. The body
represents our carnal man, the part that is destined to die,
the mind is our will and emotions and our spirit is what
connects us to God's Spirit. We were created to be a
spiritual being having a human experience and not a human
having a spiritual experience. Don't get these two confused
or you will go through life wondering why you're here.In His agape (perfect) love and His own likeness God
created man to be His adopted children so He could bless
them, to set them apart from any other living creature on
earth. Being consecrated, we are to be righteous and holy
and enter into a beautiful relationship with God our Father.
Since God commanded Adam and Eve to be fruitful and
multiply, it is no doubt that it was His intentions to fill the
earth and make it one big garden of Eden. But since God is a loving Father and not a tyrant, He gave
His new creation the free will choice to love Him back or not.
In allowing us to make our own decisions He would know
who really loves Him. He won't make anyone fellowship with
Him who does not choose to do so.This is the downfall of mankind from the very beginning as
God had an adversary the devil who's job was to destroy
God's perfect plan. To this very day Satan is still trying to
accomplish this plan, but he will stand on trial one day and
be sentenced to the Lake of Fire for eternity. Not only
himself, but everyone who follows him will experience the
same sentence. Since God is holy, He cannot allow the
sinners of the world to have entrance into His kingdom. A
child of Satan's is no child of God's, there is no hope of
adoption for these disobedient ones.Satan's pride and arrogance is what got him thrown out of
heaven and as a result he was given full reign of earth and
that is why to this day our wars are not against flesh and
blood but the powers and principalities (Ephes. 6:12). Satan
takes his exile to earth very seriously, he is adament in
destroying what God meant for good. His first target of
destruction was of course the unsuspecting Eve. He was
crafty, sneaky and charming all at the same time. He lured
Eve into thinking that God had lied to her and that if she ate
the fruit she would be just like a god and would know
everything. This sounded so tempting!Temptation is the start of sin which is hard to resist. The first
taste is always so sweet and satisfying. It usually feels like
more. And sin is also contagious. As she ate the fruit and
seemed to be enjoying it so much, Adam did not take much
convincing to try it also. He did not correct her behavior, he
condoned it and joined in on the forbidden fruit as well. To
this day we find it very difficult to resist the temptations that
lead to sin. It's human nautre to be attracted to whatever is
forbidden. It gets our curiosity up. We don't rationalize the
seriousness of sinning until it is too late.If we listened to our spirits, we would know that when things
are forbidden it's for our own good to resist them. The
catastrophic results usually won't show themselves at first
and that is why it is so alluring to go deeper.Just as Satan convinced Eve that she would not die (at least
not right away), we too always justify the reasons why we
can give in to the temptation. Being human, we tell
ourselves that no one will get hurt because no one will find
out right? Wrong...as the Bible also says, we will reap just
what we sow. We can't hide anything from God.Adam and Eve had their eyes opened to their nakedness
and they could not hide from God either. Upon sinning we
get our eyes opened to the realization that we too are naked
before God and nothing can hide the fact. Sinning takes on
an immediate change of events. Once we are found out, just
like Adam, we will not own up to our responsibility. As God
left him in charge, He was questioned first about the crime.
Immediately he pointed his finger at Eve and told God that
she made him do it. Does this sound familiar? What goes
around comes around. Eve then blamed the serpent for
tricking her. After all these thousands of years, we have not changed our
sinful nature at all. We still point fingers at others rather than
own up to what we have done. We haven't advanced much
in this area. But God who is holy and righteous is also the same
yesterday, today and forever. He didn't listen to them then
and He still won't listen to your lies and excuses. He
commanded them to obey and had they only listened, He
would have blessed them abundantly. But as a result He
cursed them and Satan too. Why then do we assume that
God will overlook our sins today? One thing God cannot overlook or tolerate is deliberate sin.
Once we know the truth, we can't deliberately sin if we are
truly saved. In His Word Paul writes this:
Heb. 10:26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received
the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more
sacrifice for sins. (vs. 27) But a certain fearful looking for of
judgement and fiery indignation which shall devour the
adversaries. As a result of the disobedience to the first man, God cast
them out from a life of blessings to one of hardships. This
curse is inheritently passed on in every generation. It's our
free will choice to turn from sin and enjoy the blessings of
God or to die in disobedience after facing Him in
judgement. Remember, He doesn't make exceptions to the
rules.Just as God created man from the dust, He promises man's
return to dust lest he accepts his eternal life through Christ.
Do you know where you will be spending eternity? If you're
not sure, it's not too late to get right with God who is always
ready to forgive and forget your sins. He loves you and
invites you to be a part of His kingdom through His Son
Christ. Is Satan worth serving when he does not have your best
interest at hand? Remember he comes to steal, kill and
destroy. No matter how attractive his offer may seem, just
realize he's a liar and the father of them. Know the truth!Ask God to forgive you of your sins because you are a sinner
and you need to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior to
take over your life. He will intercede on your behalf when you
ask God in prayer. Admit that you believe Christ died, was
buried and rose again to give you eternal life. Let Him lead
you and soon you will see a change taking place in your life.
Know that your purpose is to serve a loving God who wants
to bless you and give you eternal life.To be a friend of Jesus is to be a friend of sinners. Make a
difference in someone's life today.Vivian Gordon is an inspired follower of Christ to get the
good news of the gospel out to all who will listen. It is her

Begin With the End In Mind - Tips to Make Your Life More Meaningful
Author : Phil Gerbyshak
What would you change if you knew you would be dead in 1 day? Would you spend more time at work, pouring over budget figures, and trying to figure out how you were going to make this quarter's numbers? Would you read just 1 more e-mail from a complaining co-worker? Would you check your voicemail one last time? What would your obituary say about your life?If you're like me, I'd bet you wouldn't do anything work-related. In fact, I would bet you would see if there was any way to extend that 1 day into 6 months or more, because there is SO much you have yet to accomplish. You would vow to make a difference in your family, with your friends, in your community, maybe even in the world. Maybe you'd see if you could sky dive, climb Pike's Peak, or snorkel the Great Barrier Reef.If you knew when the end was, I'd guess you would do all those things you've been meaning to do, but that you just never had the time to do.Guess what? You won't know when the end is, so you better start living like you were dying today! Dr. Steven Covey, in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People talks about how we each must begin with the end in mind. Words That Can Leave You Powerless

The lines below come from this weeks mind treatment, written by Rev. Angelica Jayne who is a regular weekly contributor to this site.I seldom ever include other people's writing with my own, and very rarely use quotes and almost never comment on them. I sit in front of my computer knowing that I had to this time and wandering why, I am trusting the answer will come out in my writing as is always does. Please read the three paragraphs below first, and then my comments following. There is One Infinite Mind from which all things come. This Mind is everywhere present, all powerful and all knowing. This Mind is expressing as my mind now. The Unconditional Love of the Universe flows though me expressing itself as my Life. My desires are its desires. Therefore I know my dreams and visions are Divine Ideas in the Mind of God. I accept this as my Truth, knowing everything needed to fulfill these ideas is also within me. I let go of all doubt and fear. I let go of any feelings of not being enough to live my Vision. I now declare I am clear about what I want and stay focused on the end results. I let go and let God do its magnificent work through and as me.I am a living expression of God's Highest Vision for Its Life as me. I Am so grateful to know this, and to know it is not me, but the Law within me that is doing the work. I keep my eye single, and see God in and as everything. And this is good, very good. With a heart filled with awe and gratitude, I release these words knowing they are already done.I believe that one of the reasons these lines caught my eye is that they express in a special way how the process of manifesting what we desire in our lives works and who is really in charge of it all. Angelica's words may reach others that mine would not. The process of manifesting remains the same and it is a three part progression of thought, word and deed but the expression can be said many ways and that diversity of expression is most important. Not all of us speak the same language because not all of us understand the same language, so there are many of us writing the same lines but in different ways so that we may reach as many people as possible with this valuable information. When I read these articles by Angelica and by other writers I get hung up on the use of the word God most of the time or any other related symbol. The words can and do leave you powerless unless you use critical thinking to read between the lines. In the explanation and study of spirituality and how we are related to God or Source, I believe that the words are appropriate and essential to these explanations and studies. The issues I have are in the carrying over of the idea that there is God and there is us. The confusion for many that read these articles and related books as I see it would be in separating these two statements, "God is the creator of all that is," "God will give you what you desire," because the idea behind the lines takes away your power to create or manifest and the words leave wanting and waiting for God to deliver. When you leave your fate in the hands of another, you are powerless to change anything. Life is about change and it is always moving, it is the only constant and the only consequence of life is life itself, which is change by its nature. As individualized pieces of God or source we all have the power to make change, to create life. I believe that the greatest reason that humanity does not effectively get what it desires on demand, is that it gives up that power to others and to a God, that it envisions as an anthropomorphic individual that looks down upon us, and sometimes grants us what we desire. I believe that it is self evident through humanities history and our own lives from the time you were born. We do not get what we desire because we are waiting for someone else to give it to us.The issue as I see it is in the words that we use. The words have enslaved us in and ideology that no longer works for us.Intuitively humanity knows that it must change, it changes its words constantly. The dictionary is a living example of that progress as it expands every year. The one area that is slow to change is in the realm of spirituality and religion practiced. This area of awareness that can really set us free remains locked in religious jargon that is designed to make us powerless.Words are so powerful and we are so careless in using them. The one guiding principal of the law of creation is that whatever follows the words "I Am," becomes so, it is known and it is absolute. "I am hot," "I am cold," "I am a failure," "I am so lucky." All of these statements are law and they are absolute because they are known as truth."I," is the authority, "am," is the word and what ever follows is the result. "I am hungry," is known and it can not be any other way. Until you decide differently as in "I am full," "I am not hungry."You will never find God or the source or its power looking outward, you have being doing that for centuries. It is only when you look inward and truly know yourself as the source, as an individualized piece of God and then finally God, that you can claim any power at all.You cannot go around calling yourself God, there are those that will kill you, condemn you or lock you away, this has been our history. Our language has to change, to reflect the new awareness. New Age and other belief systems will not work effectively as long as we are tied to words that deny who we are and limit our power, until we are prepared to go all the way.Did you notice the "You cannot," statement above, how limiting is that? The words are so easy to say and carry absolute power. Know in your heart who you really are then begin to act like it, claim your power and use it to teach others, bring the awareness level of others to your own and encourage them to move past you. Use the words that best reflect your awareness and never again give up your power to anything or anyone that is outside of your "self," and especially to the illusive image of God.Listen closely everyday to the words that you are using, and notice how they reflect perfectly the circumstances of your life. Change your thoughts about using them and notice the changes in your life as you begin to use consciously the authority and power that is yours, and always was. Keep this awareness, "I am the authority, I am the power." Begin to use the words then exert that authority and power. To the extent that you know these things will be the extent of your power and your ability to access it.Roy E. Do You Have a Vision or a Dream?
Author : Daniel N. Brown
You must absolutely have a vision, or a dream, for your life.
Your dream is what will cause you to jump out of bed in the
morning instead of waking up with anxiety or dread for the day
ahead.Personally, when I first wake up, I immediately begin to focus on my dream. If I don't, I find it very easy to become discouraged and start complaining about things. This is definately no way to start your day!You will never be at your best if you don't have a dream because
you were born to dream. Proverbs 29:18 says that "Without a
vision the people perish."So many people without a dream will get out of bed tomorrow and
do the same thing they did yesterday. Doing the same work, seeing the same people, and complaining about the same things. And then the next day, the cycle repeats itself. Day after day, week after week, year after year, and all of a sudden life is over.I believe that inside of each person there is a God-given dream
and that dream is meant to come true! God is a dreamer and He has created us in His image and with the ability to dream. God is also a creator and He has given us the ability to create (not on the same level of course, because He alone is God).In order to live an abundant and prosperous life we are to use
our ability to dream as a focal point, as we take action by
implimenting the ideas God has given us.I believe God gives everyone ideas, but why are some people not
pursuing thier dreams? My theory is they may have had thier hopes and dreams crushed too many times so that now they are fearful of dreaming any more. They have just adopted this attitude that this is as good as it's ever gonna get, so let's just accept it.Are you like that? Maybe you are afraid to get your hopes up in
case "it doesn't work out." If it doesn't work out you will still be disappointed. You might as well get your hopes up and believe! Jesus said, "All things are possible to him who believes" (Mark 9:23). But, "all things being possible" is a conditional statement because it is dependant on your belief or disbelief. So how do you start dreaming again? Since a dream is nothing more than a thought, or a series of thoughts, you begin there; by controlling your thoughts (you must control your thoughts or they will control you). Stop thinking negatively and begin to believe for great things. Search deep down for what it is that gets you excited. Find it, believe in it, and confess it.It is vital that once you establish what it is that you want,
that you back it up with words. Jesus said in Mark 11:23, "He who believes that those things which he says shall come to pass,
shall have whatsoever he says."There is a God-given dream inside you. Bring it out and live your dream!Daniel N. Brown is the publisher of the "Living your Abundant and Prosperous Life" Newsletter. A FREE weekly publication that

The Power of Inner SELF
Author : Santosh Kunte
I am sharing one of the great insights. The fear that we have about venturing into anything new is our past memories and darkness. There is a way out to walk in the darkness. It's to seek active guidance from within and trust deeply that we are guided from within. The intensity and accuracy of the guidance dependence on our contact with inner teacher/leader/light. In fact the fear is nothing but fear of being alone. Some day, we deeply and experientially understand that we are not alone but intimately and moment to moment guided by the inner teacher. Seek to be guided and your trust will never be faltered, you got to remove the thought that you are alone. All rest on our intimate knowledge of this inner guidance which is available on seeking active contact and this power is available 24/7 with us. The problem is that we get lost in our own ideas borne of fear and align ourselves from our inner teacher. Whosoever is intimately connected with the inner teacher will shine brighter every moment with renewed intensity and can dare to step into creating the life of their dream with the trust, guidance (listen for guidance) and intimacy with the inner self.Daring and trust goes hand in hand and trust can not come until we can validate that we are not alone but guided actively every moment. For this validity, we have to experiment for sometime with our inner self and form the conviction that it's not just my dream or vision but its god's vision or dream manifesting through me for this part of my world. This conviction is the source of inner power. LISTEN TO INNER SELF FOR MAKING ROADS IN THE CHOSEN DIRECTION.Courage to act upon come from inner support which one's tested becomes a reserve bank to draw upon for venturing into bigger and better projects.Author: Santosh Kunte – Mumbai India. An avid reader of the spiritual knowledge, engineering graduate and executive. Loves reading meditation and sharing. You can reach me by dropping an e-mail on sskunte2@rediffmail.com

Remember The Titans --Let Them Never Forget...
Author : Greg Ryan
In the popular movie, "Remember the Titans" most
of us most likely can recall our favorite scene.
Do you remember this one?The first challenge of the coach was to get the
community to break up the racial divide and pull
together. So the head coach (played by Densel
Washington) decides to take his players away to
camp. Even with the change of environment racial
barriers still stood tall and tension were high.
After the first few days the coach noticed the
communication between the black and white players
had not improved in the least, matter of fact it
was getting worse. The players were not executing
their plays, mistakes were made purposely in order
to make others look bad and as a result fights
continually broke out. So here is what the coach
decided to do.At lunch one day the coach pulled a particular big
fat happy go lucky lineman up to the front of the
lunchroom. This kid didn't care black, white,
purple, green, he just was happy to be there. The
coach asked him to tell the whole team ONE thing
about his roommate that he learned in the few days
they were there. This kid rattled on for what
seems an hour about his roommate. However, with no
surprise to the coach, when he asked all the other
players to do the same, none of them could mention
one thing about the other. How could they expect
to win souls (I mean games) if they didn't believe
in their cause and pull together as a team? So as
a result the coach made each player learn things
about one other between each practice session
until each player new something about all other
players. In short, if you recall the rest of the
movie, that exercise brought the team together and
not only inspired everyone, but also they went
undefeated that season. However, what if those
racial barriers had not been broken down how many
souls (I mean games) do you think the Titans would
have won that year? Would they have won even one
game?Is there any difference in winning games and
winning souls for Christ? Is there any difference
in the lack of communication that once paralyzed
the Titans and Christians today? Sometimes we just
going through the motions of going to church,
going to parties and not breaking down barriers?
And at the end of the day even years later do we
know any more about our friends? Can you count on
both of your hands the number of people you hang
with that you know things about them deeper than
just their name or social status? The turning point in the last game of the season
came when the coach got angry and serious enough,
pulled is defensive players aside and said. "From
this moment forward I want you to let no one, I
mean no one get past you and make another yard.
Let them never forget the day they played the
Titans!!!!"From this moment forward, I challenge you to let
no one; I mean no one, get past you. Let them
never forget the day you loved someone enough to
find out more about them.Greg Ryan is a best selling author of the Changing from the INSIDE OUT series. A powerful five step plan to better your life, get healthier, and have more energy!

Encouragement--Heart At Work
Author : Althea DeBrule
Encouragement can have a very powerful effect on bosses and co-workers. The literal meaning of the word, encourage, is to put heart into. When this definition is applied to work situations, it suggests:
Stirring, inspiring and motivating bosses and co-workers with hope, courage and confidence.Giving team members a vote of confidence.Boosting morale by expressing approval and offering support to others in the office.Lifting people up and moving them to do the things they need to do to achieve company and career objectives.Empowering direct reports and peers to grow professionally and reach their full potential.Stimulating cooperation and collaboration between work units, departments or the company as a whole.
Encouragement & FailureEveryone needs encouragement. Bosses and co-workers alike face difficult situations and make mistakes or fail on a daily basis. They need help to cope with disappointment, fear, doubt and uncertainty. It has been said, "A word of encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success" (Anonymous).Even if people act tough—as if they are successfully handling the overwhelming emotions that accompany a mistake, don't believe it! Somewhere deep inside, they are awash in despair with intense feelings of fear about having made yet another blunder or slip-up.What they desperately need is someone like you to come alongside them and encourage them for trying even in the face of failure…someone who really cares about them…who accepts and acknowledges them by helping to keep their self-esteem intact in spite of the failure.Put Heart into Others at WorkEncouragement is one of the easiest yet greatest work tools available to boost a boss or co-worker's self-esteem. When we put heart into others at work, we lead them to achieve greater things than they ever thought possible. Here are 10 tips to help you be an On-the-Job Encourager:

Exert a positive influence on their work lives by giving them encouragement just because…Deliberately look for small ways to encourage others verbally, in writing or through your own behavior towards them.Act as a cheerleader or a fan club member for a co-worker or boss. Tell them, "I know you can do this…"Reassure team members after a disappointment or setback.Prompt your direct reports and peers to try new things or pursue new opportunities.Offer to help co-workers recover from a disappointment or failure. Give them a shoulder to cry upon when appropriate.Value and accept your co-workers as they are and don't put conditions on accepting them.Help others in the office to believe in themselves. Point out their positive character traits and how these can lead to success in the future.Recognize the efforts and improvements co-workers make especially after a mistake.Show appreciation for the contributions of every team member in your office.

3 Big Fat Lies that Deserve to Die
Author : Jeff Herring
Big Fat Lie 1: Your personality is formed and unchangeable by age 5 or 6Somehow we have accepted the idea that we are complete by age 5 or 6 because some "learned psychologist" said so.Recent research reveals, however, that our neocortex, the front part of our brain that is responsible for reasoning and decision-making, is still developing well into late adolescence.I can hear the parents of teens saying "Well, duh!"If you pause to think about this notion, it really makes little sense, for at least two reasons:1) It implies that people cannot change, and my 25 years of working with people makes me conclude just the opposite it true.Although just about every phase of my work life involves talking with people, I am basically a shy person. In high school and college there was a guy in our church who was very friendly to everyone, and just about everywhere we went, he knew someone. Because I admired this, I watched and modeled some of his behavior because my shyness was something I very much wanted to change.2) If you are 40 years old and everything was formed and complete by age 5, then this implies that you have wasted the last 35 years. I doubt that to be trueBig Fat Lie 2: Time heals all wounds. We have all heard this one many times. Sounds good, doesn't it?The problem is that time does not heal all wounds. The reality is this: all time does is pass. It's what we do while time is passing that makes the difference.I've worked with people that have had huge tragedies in their lives, and because of the way they handled it, were doing fairly well relatively soon.I've also worked with people who have had misfortune in their lives who talk about it as if it were last week when, in fact, it occurred 15 years ago. They have kept it alive and recent for them. It's what we do while time passes that makes the difference.Big Fat Lie 3: The first cut is the deepestFrom Rod Stewart to Sheryl Crow, "the first cut is the deepest" has become an accepted myth about relationships. The first breakup is supposed to be the worst and most difficult. "Isn't this supposed to hurt more?" I've even had teens and adults say, as if there were doing something wrong with not being broken-hearted enough. The reality is that the deepest cut, or most hurt, comes in the relationships where you have cared, loved and given the most. The difficult task is to recover enough to, in the words of the song, "try to love again."It's an important thing to accomplish, otherwise you give the other person way too much power over you.Visit SecretsofGreatRelationships.com for tips and tools for creating and growing a great relationship. Life Inspiration: 12 Tips for Successful Living
Author : Jeff Herring
1. Constant affirmation without accountability is a sure-fire way to cripple a child. In other words, belief in yourself without responsibility leads to a sense of entitlement.2. Raise your hand if you've ever been rejected for anything, anytime, anywhere. We all have. How would you like to have a nice little four-letter word for the next time you're rejected? It's: NEXT. Next sale, next job, next date, next whatever.3. Beware of people who use their own emotional pain as a tool to manipulate others instead of as a motivation to change themselves.4. Parents of teens need to watch out for NMK Syndrome: Not My Kid, as in "my kid couldn't have done ___" (fill in the blank). Well, yes, they could have. Even if you have faithfully raised them not to do certain things, kids still have the power of choice, which means they can make bad choices.NMK Syndrome can blind you to something that needs immediate attention. Trust in your kids and in your parenting, and always check out what you hear.5. When you receive a notice in your credit card statement that says, "Congratulations, because of your excellent payment history, there is no minimum fee due this month," it's not a time for celebration. You're still being charged interest. These people are not your friends.6. It's a humbling and sobering experience to have a child who wants to be like you.7. I've noticed more and more people doing what I call "caboose living."Picture a three-car train. The engine in front we'll call facts/reality; the car in the middle is our thoughts, beliefs, decisions, choices and behaviors based on the facts; the caboose is our feelings. The facts/reality come first, then thoughts and behaviors followed by feelings. Many folks try to run their life train with the caboose (feelings) in the lead. Feelings are interesting and important, but they cannot drive the train. Pay attention to your feelings, but let the facts/reality drive the train.8. A successful marriage requires selective and strategic ignoring. The right things to ignore are little habits and irritating peculiarities that we all have. The problem comes when you select the wrong things to ignore.9. I wonder if it's a bad thing to believe that football on TV is one of the first signs of fall approaching.10. Most folks live with the illusion that worrying about something can actually make a difference. The only possible way that worrying can make a difference is if the worrying motivates you to take action to do something about the subject of your worry.11.People often say, "Well, I'm just going with the flow." The problem with going with the flow is that many times the flow is lost and does not know where it is going.12. Best quote I've seen since last time, by Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts: "At some point, though, a problem ought to be defined less by our ability to explain why it happens than by our willingness to demand that it happen no more."Visit SecretsofGreatRelationships.com for tips and tools for creating and growing a great relationship. Important Things to Know / Remember About Life
Author : Yair Czitrom
I love you not because who you are, but because who I am when I am with you There is no one in this world that worth your tears, and if they are, they will never make you cry. If someone loves you not in the way you would like to, it does not mean that they don not love you in their own way A good friend is the one that will hold your hand and will touch your heart. The worst way to miss someone is to sit right next to them, knowing you will never be with them. Never stop smiling even when you are sad. Someone might just fall in love with your smile. Do not waste your time with someone who does not care wasting their time with you. You might be just "a someone" in this world, but for someone, you are the entire world. You might need to need many "wrong" people before you will meet the "right" one. Like that, you will highly appreciate them will it will happened. Do not cry when it is over – Be glad that it happened. Do not "fight" for things to happen. The best things in life happen when you least expect them. Be a better person and know always where you are coming from and who you are before you meet someone new, and hope that they will know you for who you are. There will always be someone that will heart you, but you need to keep on trusting people…just with more caution.
Hope it will help you see things in a brighter light.

Acres of Diamonds
Author : Devon D. Harris
Russell Conwell helped to transform a night school in a church basement in Philadelphia into Temple University. He did it by retelling a story that was told to him while in a camel caravan in Mesopotamia. It was a story about Al Hafed, a very wealthy farmer in ancient Persia. Al Hafed was living his dream life until one day a Buddhist priest visited him and during their conversation told him how the world was formed. The old priest also told Al Hafed about diamonds and that if he had a handful of diamonds he could purchase a whole country. With a mine of diamonds he could place his children upon thrones through the influence of their great wealth. That night Al Hafed went to bed a poor man -- not that he had lost anything. He was poor because he was discontented and discontented because he thought he was poor. After a sleepless night, he arose early the next morning and told the priest of his desire to be immensely rich. After a lengthy conversation the priest told him that he would find diamonds in a river that runs over white sand between high mountains. Al Hafed sold his farm, collected his money, left his family in the charge of a neighbor, and began his search for diamonds. After years of exhaustive search throughout Palestine and across Europe, penniless, ragged and wretched, he threw himself into the incoming tide off the coast of Spain never to rise again. In the meantime, back at the farm, Al Hafed's successor, while giving his camel a drink from the stream that ran through the property, found a black stone with an eye of light that reflected all the colors of the rainbow. The stone turned out to be a diamond. And so were discovered the diamond mines of Golconda, the most magnificent diamond mines in the history of mankind; exceeding the Kimberley mines in value. Had Al Hafed remained at home and in his own garden, instead of wretchedness, starvation, poverty and death in a strange land, he would have had "acres of diamonds." Every shovelful of that old farm has since revealed the gems which have decorated the crowns of monarchs. The most amazing and tragic element of this story is the fact that we have so many modern day Al Hafeds wandering around looking for their acres of diamond everywhere except in the backyard of their own mind.Change your PerspectiveOne of the valuable lessons taught by this incredible story is one of perspective. How do you see yourself? The gem stones are the attitudes you develop over time as a result of seeing YOUR world more clearly. When you see yourself more clearly, you see yourself as someone who is valuable and has limitless potential. This leads to high self esteem and high expectations which are the cornerstones for high achievement. This perspective also motivates you and compels you to act with a clearly defined purpose.Opportunities are dressed in work clothesYour greatest opportunities lie under your own feet. They lie in your intellect, your talent and abilities, your education and experience, as well as with your family members, friends and business contacts. The challenge is that in the rough, a diamond does not look like a diamond that we are familiar with. It looks like a black, rough piece of rock and must be cut, shaped and polished repeatedly before it glistens like the valuable stone that it is.The Al Hafeds of today are waiting around for their opportunities to turn up. They are looking for the easy way; the six numbers in the lotto or an inheritance from a long lost relative they've never even heard of. They fail to realize that their acres of diamonds represent an opportunity for them to learn and work hard for a long period of time, honing and developing their skills so that they can build a career or business and eventually have everything they want.Your area of excellenceEach and every one of us have the ability to be excellent at something. What can you be excellent at? It is your responsibility to find it. You may have a knack for singing. Perhaps it's teaching or sports. Whatever it is, know that ability is latent until it's developed. You may have all the potential in the world, but the marketplace will only pay your performance not your potential. J.K. Rowlings is now the richest woman in the UK, but ten years ago she was on welfare. Her latent talent was in writing and through her writing she began to mine the nuggets of diamonds that were abundant in her mind. Harry Potter became her Golconda mines. Remember, the diamonds lie inside us waiting to be mined, cut and polished.Keep on Pushing!http://www.devonharrislive.comThe contents of this E-zine may be copied, reproduced, or freely distributed for all nonprofit purposes without the consent of the author as long as the author's name, copyright notice and contact information are included.Copyright (C) 2005 Devon Harris
