Why Questions are so Important for Self Improvement and Success

Author : Garry Zancanaro
Asking questions is one of the most basic ways that we all learn and grow. The questions we ask other people, and even more importantly, the questions we ask ourselves, can have a dramatic impact on our self improvement, success and happiness. There are times when we find ourselves in difficult or uncomfortable situations, or even in a position where we feel completely overwhelmed. It can be very easy to say 'what have I done to deserve this?' or 'why does this always happen to me?'However, these questions are destructive and only serve to prepare us for future disappointments. In fact, they can actually guarantee it! The questions we ask ourselves reflect our state of mind, reinforce our beliefs and have a huge impact on our results. We all experience events that seem too overwhelming to deal with, and there is a great deal of valuable information available to help in these situations. But in almost any situation, no matter how bad it may seem, there is usually something positive that can be found.Actually asking the question 'what can I learn from this situation?' is a great starting point, even if you only learn what not to do in the future. But you can go much further. It has often been said that when one door closes another opens; and that in every setback lies opportunity. Don't just stare at the closed door - why not try asking yourself what opportunities are now available, or what doors have just opened for you? It will improve your state of mind and may just change you life.Self Improvement Quote of the Day:"A major stimulant to creative thinking is focused questions. There is something about a well-worded question that often penetrates to the heart of the matter and triggers new ideas and insights." – Brian TracyGarry Zancanaro is the founder of Self Improvement Directory, a website dedicated to Self Improvement and Personal Development, and to helping people live more successful and fulfilling lives by providing a directory of the highest quality Self Growth resources available. The Seven C's of Success

Author : Chris Widener
Get ready to sail the Seven C's - the Seven C's of Success that is. Get on
board and ride this ship to your destiny! There are Seven C's you must sail
if you want to be a total success. Here they are, in alphabetical order:1. Caring - I believe that to be a true success in this world we must have a
bigger vision than simply accomplishing a goal for ourselves or simply
lining our own pockets. I believe that successful people have a deep care
for others. Yes, they are aggressive, but they are not aggressive to the
point that they run roughshod over others.Question: What is your care factor? Have you placed people in their proper
place, as people worthy of dignity, respect, and proper treatment? Or have
you begun to treat others as a means to an end for yourself?2. Character - Becoming a success is more than increasing the digits in your
bank account. In fact, I believe ANYONE can increase his or her bank account
with a simple plan. Financial development is the easy part. Character
development is the hard part, letting each and every experience shape and
mold us as we experience them, always moving toward our goal and never
allowing negative circumstances to destroy us but make us better people.
This is what true success is about!Question: How is your character? Are you becoming a better person with each
passing experience? Are you becoming a rock of wisdom and experience,
deepening your foundation of character?3. Choice - Eisenhower reminded us that our histories are written by choice,
not by chance. Every movement you make toward your ultimate success and
destiny will be because you choose to move toward it. The actions that you
choose, each and every day will add up, over the long-term, to your final
destination. The power we have as humans to choose is one of the greatest
gifts known to mankind.Question: Do you choose success with each and every choice you make? Each
choice you make either moves you toward your goal or away from it. Which do
you choose?4. Concentration - Often those who fail do so because they lose their
concentration. Something else comes along and becomes their newfound fancy.
They move from whim to whim, tossed to and fro by the strong blowing winds.
The successful person however, stands firm, with their eyes transfixed on
the goal. One of my favorite posters as a boy was of George Brett of the
Kansas City Royals Baseball Team. They picture was taken just as the bat was
hitting the ball. Where were George's eyes? Straight down the barrel of the
bat, looking at the point where the ball and bat came together. Now that is
concentration!Question: How is your concentration? Do you stick to your goal and focus
firmly on it, or do you let your mind and heart wander from whim to whim?5. Confidence - Success comes to those who have the confidence to try, and
more than that, the confidence to win. Confidence is something that you can
grow in your mind and heart. Each passing victory that you achieve builds
more and more confidence in you to draw from the next time you go to fight
another battle on your journey to success. Do what you can to build
confidence inside of yourself so you will be able to dip deeply into that
well when you need it!Question: How is your confidence? Do you believe that you can achieve what
you conceive? Are you winning victories that you can then draw on later?6. Consistency - People who become a success realize that to a great degree,
success is a formula. At the very least it is sticking to doing the right
things for a long enough period of time for them to create their destiny.
This is consistency. They consistently do the things that will bring them
their success. Tiger Woods hits hundreds of practice balls each and every
day. He doesn't do 100 one day, then two days off, then 500 balls, then a
day off, then 300 balls, then three days off. No, he knows the power of
consistency and has achieved a level of success that that consistency
formulated for him.Question: How is your consistency? Are you consistent? Are you doing the
things you need to do each and every day that will bring your goal to you?7. Courage - Successful people are brave people. They know that even success
has its challenges, yet they face them head on and move forward anyway. No
mountain is too high, nor river too wide, nor foe too large for the person
who will choose to live out their dreams! They are courageous people who
continue on even when others have quit. And for that they receive their
reward!Question: How about you? Are you courageous? Are you willing to face the
obstacles and move forward in spite of the fear that may try to well up
within you? Be courageous and you will succeed! There they are, the Seven C's of Success. Set sail today!Caring

The Secret to Success in 2004 (or any year)

Author : Jim Rohn
Do you want to achieve your most important goals in 2004? In my opinion it gets down to two simple words, "easy" and "neglect".People often ask me how I became successful at the early age of 31, while many of the people I knew did not. The answer is simple: During that 6-year period of time (age 25 to 31), the things I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. I found it easy to set the goals that could change my life. They found it easy not to. I found it easy to read the books that could affect my thinking and my ideas. They found that easy not to. I found it easy to attend the classes and the seminars, and to get around other successful people. They said it probably really wouldn't matter. If I had to sum it up, I would say what I found to be easy to do, they found to be easy not to do. Six years later, I'm a millionaire and they are all still blaming the economy, the government, and company policies, yet they neglected to do the basic, easy things. In fact, the primary reason most people are not doing as well as they could and should, can be summed up in a single word: neglect. It is not the lack of money - banks are full of money. It is not the lack of opportunity - America, and much of the free World, continues to offer the most unprecedented and abundant opportunities in the last six thousand years of recorded history. It is not the lack of books â€" libraries are full of books - and they are free! It is not the schools - the classrooms are full of good teachers. We have plenty of ministers, leaders, counselors and advisors.Everything we would ever need to become rich and powerful and sophisticated is within our reach. The major reason that so few take advantage of all that we have is simply neglect.Neglect is like an infection. Left unchecked it will spread throughout our entire system of disciplines and eventually lead to a complete breakdown of a potentially joy-filled and prosperous human life. Not doing the things we know we should do causes us to feel guilty and guilt leads to an erosion of self-confidence. As our self-confidence diminishes, so does the level of our activity. And as our activity diminishes, our results inevitably decline. And as our results suffer, our attitude begins to weaken. And as our attitude begins the slow shift from positive to negative, our self-confidence diminishes even more... and on and on it goes.So my suggestion is that when giving the choice of "easy to" and "easy not to" that you do not neglect to do the simple, basic, "easy"; but potentially life-changing activities and disciplines. To Your Success,

Ingredients For Success

Author : Jose Sanchez
Management by Objectives, strategic planning, quality, teams, re-engineering. Passing management fads? Consultants, more consultants. Training and more training. Businesses are littered by the corpses of all these attempts at finding the way to become better. What happened? What went wrong? How can simple and productive ideas like these have failed in some companies while succeeding in others? In some companies one finds employees sneering at management, not believing on anything, just letting the days go by. In others one can see an uplifted employee force. They are committed to their work, they communicate with each other, they read company publications, they ask questions and hear the answers. What is the cause? What is the difference? ATTITUDES. Attitude is one of those words that we have difficulty defining. It is a state of mind, a disposition, it reflects in our moods and personality, it molds our perspectives and preferences. It can result in laxity or negligence: an "It's Not My Job" mentality; or in an open-minded "Can Do" behavior.Attitudes makes us who we are, how we think and act, how we respond to challenges, how we look at things. Attitudes are created and modified. We are not born with them. They are developed from early childhood. There is a direct link between the way we think and the way we behave. When people come in contact with us they are responding to our personality, which is the outer expression of our inner attitudes. Our behavior (or personality) directly impacts our success. Since behavior is based on attitudes, attitude is one of the key ingredients for success.Look at your favorite people in history. Why did they succeed? Was it their skills alone? There are millions with the skills and the knowledge who are not successful. In most cases winners have a driving attitude to succeed. Lincoln lost many elections before becoming president. John Paul II was shot and came close to death. Beethoven was deaf.Even in medical terms, positive attitude is a remarkable force. Positive thinking has been determined to be a "miracle drug" that you manufacture within yourself. As June Bierman, author of "Diabetes in the News" says "this miracle drug has no side effects, doesn't require a doctor's prescription and doesn't cost you a penny." What a powerful force! What are your attitudes? Do you live thinking that any situation is an opportunity for success? Or do you believe that sooner or later something bad is going to happen? Do you look at things as "too much trouble," "there is nothing I can do?" Or do you say "this is an opportunity for me," "this is my chance to shine"?So how can we develop our attitudes? Obviously, we first must realize that we need to. Then we must want to. If not, we will never change them. The most practical way to change attitudes is through spaced repetition, which is how attitudes were developed originally. Human behaviorists estimate that if you are exposed to an idea six times during six days, you will retain 62% of the idea after 15 years.Another powerful tool to change attitudes is affirmations. Remember Mohamad Ali. He used to brag all the time that he was the greatest — he was re affirming his belief in himself. We need to do the same! Continuos use of positive affirmations about us have a tremendous power on how we see ourselves; how we see ourselves impacts how we act, how we act impacts our success. Is this all we need to be successful? No. We also need SKILLS. Most companies send employees to technical training; but many are not concerned with human behavioral skills. The higher we go in an organization, the less technical skills we need; however, the human behavioral skills become critical to the job. We must keep in mind the "soft" skills as well as the technical skills required for our job. We can find people to fill in our lack of technical skills but is very difficult to get someone to replace our lack of human behavioral skills. What else do we need to be successful? Think about how many times have we had the best of intentions to do something and we have quit along the way? The answer is : GOALS. Goals "make sure" that we stay on track and aimed at our success. We should emphasize personal goals as well as professional goals. Actually, they are integrated. Excelling in one propels the other. We must set goals for improvement for ourselves, making sure they are realistic, specific, measurable, actionable and time bound.Develop an action plan to accomplish your goal with positive affirmations to guide you. Slowly you will see your life changing. What about in business ?. How many of us find ourselves with no business goals, no direction? We fall in a daily routine of answering telephones, writing letters, having meetings, etc. Without goals for improvement we become slaves to the system, to the process. Goals drive companies to success.A change in our attitudes, skills and goals will result in changed behavior. This new behavior will bring about improved results, both in our personal lives as well as in our business live. A very simple formula: Positive Attitudes, combined with Skills and Goals result in success.Jose Sanchez

Communication and Communication Skills - Understanding Your Audience

Author : Stuart Malkin
Response means "to answer" and that idea, in its purest form means a complete and honest answer, with all of the detail that constitutes a meaningful communication. Semantics teaches us that we must appraise our "audience" and determine the language level, detail level, maturity level etc. of the person(s) to whom we are speaking. Only then can we communicate effectively. An obvious example is communicating with a child vs. an adult ... language, speed of speech and even gestures and facial expression should vary, based on the audience! And the most essential characteristic of essential communication is called "experience and reference function." That means that we need to appraise the experience of the listener and, to the extent possible, modify our communication so that it fits the experience of the listener. If we are able to do this effectively, our communication, our responses and our feedback to the audience will be accurate, complete and meaningful to them! The other aspect of this methodology, "reference function" applies to the specific uniqueness of the audience. A good example is a mother ... a mother is in a position to have a very special view of subjects such as "baby" or "pregnancy." When discussing those subjects, for instance, no male is in a position to understand the essence of those subjects as well as a mother! It is not practical or necessary to use this "audience appraisal" methodology in each of our everyday communication needs. But, clearly, to the extent that one does take into account such concepts concerning an audience, communication will be more effective. It will engender trust in the relationship. As to feedback specifically, I believe that as much information as one can give in a communication will, obviously, produce a better communication. It will also encourage feedback back to the speaker, further enhancing the quality of the conversation. And, yes, that does include negative feedback, though I would personally sprinkle love and concern along with the negativity! Any method of achieving wholeness in a
relationship will encourage trust.Excerpts from a new book, "Looking for a Better World." Read more at:

Two Great Success Tips - Read And Apply What You Learn And Do It Now!

Author : John Watson
Today I was glad that I had bothered to read two of my favourite ezines. It is only too easy to think that you can afford to miss an issue or two. Inevitably, the issues you miss will be the best ones! One ezine was written by Pawan Agrawal and the other by Martin Avis. They reminded me of two great truths which I have come across and even written about several times before. We need reminding of the great truths again and again because it is easy to forget them or fail to apply them.Pawan had come across a statistic which shocked her:"85% of the people who buy ebooks never actually finish reading them, and of those who do read the whole ebook, 95% of them never implement what they learn."The reason people don't read the ebooks according to Pawan's source is that they believed that they were reading nothing new and had already learned what was in the ebook. Those who do implement what they know and make things happen are the successful ones. Those who stop only at learning new things without putting them into action are unsuccessful.I think matters are even worse. Probably 85% of people who buy ebooks never actually start reading them let alone finish reading them and probably only 1 or 2 % actually implement what they learn. I value my own opinion on this because I am one of the guilty ones.I am highly motivated to learn new things and become very enthusiastic about any new ebook or more expensive product on the market. I have spent thousands of pounds and dollars on both high cost seminars and low cost ebooks and have only read a handful of them. The problem is that my enthusiasm moves me to buy one ebook and then before I have read it, another appears on the market and I buy that and so on. In the meantime I never get round to reading much except my email! I also have little time available to actually put anything into action. My reason for not reading is not that I think I know it all; it is my desire to know it all which makes me keep buying the latest and best and then getting overwhelmed with all the new info.I am also a sucker for good copy writing!I realize that buying ebooks and then not reading and not implementing them is crazy. Martin Avis' ezine suggests the solution. Read the ebook now before anything else has a chance to distract you. Also take action now while your current enthusiasm is still fresh and strong. Don't leave it till later. If you leave things till later other priorities will take over or you will forget to do whatever it was you planned on doing.I'll finish this article with a great quote from Martin Avis and a great quote from Pawan Agrawal. The first one is from Martin Avis and is pure wisdom:"The best way to keep enthusiastic and to be constantly motivated is to be a person who takes action. Strangely enough, the more action you take, the more things that you actually do when they spring to mind rather than leave until later, the more things that you will find that you get done. Action breeds action and action now is the best form of motivation that there is."The quote from Pawan Agrawal is a challenge to you and to me:"In my observations I have come to the conclusion that there are only two types of people in this world... those that DO and those that DON'T! Those that do are the success stories you often read about in the glossy brochures or on the front page of Time Magazine. Those that DON'T are the ones doing the reading. What type of person are you?"About the authorJohn Watson is an award winning teacher and martial arts instructor. He has recently written two books about achieving your goals and dreams. They can both be found on his website http://www.motivationtoday.com along with a daily motivational message. The title of the first book is "36 Laws To Ignite Your Inner Power And Realize Your Dreams Now! - Acronyms, Stories, And Pictures...Easy To Remember And Use Everyday To Grab Your Life And Soar With The Eagles"The book can be found at this URL http://www.motivationtoday.com/36_laws.phpThe book uses acronyms, stories and pictures to help readers remember 36 laws that can gradually transform your life if you apply them. You are welcome to publish the article above in your ezine or on your website so long as you do not alter it and keep in the words about the author and the 36 Laws.

Want To Succeed In Business, Social, Personal Life? Take Good Care Of Your Personal Image

Author : W. Paul Barton
Your personal image: It's the most important YOU asset you own.Your personal image, the perception that people have about you, affects your success in every aspect of life - your life on the job, your social life, even your love life! That is true because, no matter who you are or what you do, your success depends on what other people THINK about you - the image they have of you.Your personal image has a number of elements. The way you dress, the colors you choose, the way you talk and the way you relate to others are some of the more important ones. Some examples:Personal Image And How You DressOne very dramatic real-life example of how the way you dress can affect your success was recounted in the New York Times. The Times reported on what happened when two young men attempted to get an online service executive to give them $500,000 for their surfing website. The young men bought new suits for the meeting and their presentation was equally buttoned up.After just five minutes, the executive ended the meeting, saying, 'These are '#@%+! surfers?'A couple of months later they came back for another presentation. How were they dressed this time? Like surfers - with Hawaiian shirts, shorts and sandals. For good measure, they acted the part in everything they said and did. But they didn't change their presentation at all. This time, they walked out with the $500,000 order. Clearly, the way they were dressed made a huge difference. They now 'looked the part' and this gave them the credibility they lacked before.'Looking the part, by dressing correctly has been proven critical to success in getting people to do what you want them to do.In a famous experiment, two men approached 50 secretaries each in the same building to see which could best get past the secretaries to see the decision-maker.Both used the same approach - but one man succeeded 24% of the time, while the second succeeded an astounding 60% of the time!Even more astounding, they weren't two different men at all. They were the same man.The first time the man approached 50 secretaries he was wearing a black raincoat. The secretaries perceived him as a messenger or delivery person -- someone who should not be allowed to get in to see their bosses. When he approached the second 50 secretaries, he wore a tan raincoat. This time the secretaries perceived him as an executive, a peer of their bosses. So they granted his request to see them. The clothes he wore and the colors he chose in each situation profoundly shaped the secretaries' image of him and made the difference between success and failure.Personal Image And Your ConversationYour talk (conversation ability) can be even more important to your success in business than your grades in school or college, according to a study by the Stanford University School of Business. The study tracked the success of MBA's 10 years after they graduated. The result? Grade point averages of graduates had no bearing on their success -- but their ability to make conversation did.The most successful graduates were those who could make conversation with anyone -- anyone from strangers to secretaries to bosses to customers.Your image as being good in conversation helps you achieve success in social and personal relationships in two ways:(1) Good conversation promotes 'liking.' We like to be around people who can carry on an interesting conversation.(2) Good conversation creates an attractive image of wittiness, intelligence and self-confidence.If you are able to carry on a good conversation, this makes people think of you as having more intelligence, wit and self confidence than those who cannot do so.And, a university study showed just how important the perception of intelligence and self confidence can be.In a study to determine the characteristics of the ideal male or ideal female -- intelligence and self confidence were rated as most important by 60% or more of respondents. The message in all this for people who want to put themselves in position to succeed in their business, social and personal lives:Take good care of your most important YOU asset - your personal image.Copyright © W. The American Dream Model

Author : Janet Ilacqua
The present model of business and career motivation, the one most closely associated with the "American Dream" which emphases enterpreuneurship, individual achievement, competition, and domination has been around for at least the last 50 years . Up to the mid 20th century, the predominant prosperity model was the Calvinist work ethic originally derived from the Puritan. The Calvinist work ethic emphasized hard work, saving for the future, and foregoing vacations, paying bills in cash, and foregoing luxuries to save for a rainy day. On the other, the motivation for moneymaking is no longer saving for the future, but, what Thornstein Veblen, the famous 19th century economist characterized as "conspicuous consumption." Luxury homes, luxury cars, fancy electronic gadgets, and exotic vacations create the illusion of wealth. The philosophy of the Amway Corporation, now known as Quixtel in the U. S. is a good illustration of the concepts involved.Amway Corporation is a direct selling organization that produces and markets products using a Multilevel Marketing system (or MLM for short). Multilevel marketing is a form of direct selling in which manufacturers authorize independent contractors to sell their products directly to consumers, bypassing intermediaries and retail stores. Using the garage or a spare bedroom as a warehouse and a home office as a business hub, a distributor makes a profit by buying wholesale from his or her company and selling to customers at retail prices. MLM is also a recruiting business. A distributor is permitted to sign up other individuals to become part of his company's distribution force--and is paid a commission on the wholesale product purchases made by recruits. Both methods then furnish consumers with new options in acquiring consumer items they desire. The motivator for work and sole measure of success measured is money and the goods that money can buy:This is a business, and a main reason people work at any business is to earn money that not only will help them pay their bills, but also meet other goals. Those may be short- or long-term goals, and they could be large (like buying a new house) or small (like saving for a vacation).A better standard of living is a common motivation and reward for people starting any kind of business. Money - and what it can buy - is the universally recognizable indicator of success that distributors use to motivate and establish credibility for their business.http://www.amway.com/InfoCenter/questions/question20.aspAnother important aspect of this success model is that one has only one self's to blame for one's own success for failure. And yet given the low success rate in Amway, "...the data from one investigative report reveal that only 1,000 of over 200,000 distributors ever achieved the rank of Direct Distributor or higher," it is also quite clear that the company does not offer success to anyone who enters the business [Bromley, 1995:151]. How can all these well-meaning people not succeed? The only ideologically accepted explanation is that these well-meaning people had no commitment to "the dream." The product is irrelevant. It is keeping the dream alive and resisting everything that could possibly rob one of The American Dream that counts. For "the dream" is God's blessing, the divine will, the American Way, family, morality, and the free-enterprise system. Hence, The American Dream becomes a cardinal article of faith, a foundation stone of America's civil religion. [Striker 1984: 128]As Streiker describes it, the product lines in Amway come to signify and reveal something central to the growth of the company and the role of ideology.Amway is a performance-based business that rewards people in direct proportion to their effort. The bigger the financial goal, the more time and effort a distributor will need to put into his or her business. With an Amway business, a distributor can work as much or little as he or she likes. The rewards are based directly on the distributor's accomplishments.Recently, the American success model has been taken a battering. The competition for business markets and jobs is stiff . The faith in business has been eroded by corporate fraud scandals, massive layoffs, and outsourcing. You are the President of Your Own Nation

Author : John Di Lemme
Congratulations! You are the president of your own nation, and it is called "Imagination". This particular nation is the driving force behind your life and is the underlying factor for your future. You need to realize that you have an enormous responsibility as the President of this Nation, because you need to always focus on the future and strive to have the ultimate nation. You need to internalize the power you have as the President of your own nation. Among many things that you have is the power to choose and/or consider. You are the one who holds the votes on who is allowed to live in your nation! As I have written about in the past, you must create and begin to maximize your mastermind team. This team will empower you to build an unreal imagination and make others wonder why you are achieving such an awesome level of success. As the President, you will inspire others to create other phenomenal imaginations of their own. The world needs many people who are proud of their own "Imagination".Each of us has the ability to imagine such powerful dreams for our future, which can change the destiny of millions of people. Let's think about a few people who had unreal imaginations -- Henry Ford imagined an 8-cylinder car and then achieved it. The Wright Brothers imagined men could fly and then discovered a way to make that possible. John F. Kennedy said that we would have a man on the moon and then achieved it. Ask yourself right now, "Where did they all dream of those achievements first?" The answer to that question is...They did their dreaming in their own nation called Imagination! You need to take some personal time and evaluate how you are handling your nation. Are you proud of what you are imagining you can be or what you can do? If you answer that question truthfully, you will either be enthused or disillusioned. You truly need to re-examine your nation. I suggest that you brainstorm, which means to take some time for yourself and just write down all the dreams that you have but never even wrote down. I also recommend that you write down 100 of them and then put them away for 2 days so that they can sink in a little. When you go back and read them, your inner spirit will direct you to the one that you need to focus on and begin to design with your own "Imagination". Each of us is empowered to create wealth for ourselves in every aspect of life -- spiritually, physically, and financially!I challenge you right now to utilize your God-given imagination and imagine whatever you want to be then you will empowered to run your nation in the most productive methods possible. This alone will entirely change your life for the better, because now you have a responsibility as a President of a nation - your "Imagination".Find Your WHY and FLY!As a young child, John Di Lemme was clinically diagnosed as a

Ready? Go! Tweak!

Author : Ronnie Nijmeh
Let's set the scene. You're in a packed stadium. It's the Olympics and you're watching the 100-metre sprint. You're up in the nosebleed section and you see what resembles little "ants" stretching on the field as they prepare for their 10-second mad dash to the finish line. As the race is about to begin, the official hollers: "Ready? Set. Go!" And off they go, as fast as the wind, with the hopes of finishing first among a handful of equally talented competitors. But wait, "Ready? Set. Go!"? Is this phrase always correct? Should you always be "set" before you "go?"The answer is: not always. Let's take a step back to understand this using an example.Running a Business vs. Running a RaceRunning a business (or running your life) is not entirely like running a race. In a business, you don't usually have to practice for months for something that lasts a mere 10 seconds. Business plans are more likely to have a longer shelf life (well, at least longer than 10 seconds, I'd hope!). Nor do businesses stand on a racing line with their competitors and wait for formal instructions to begin. On the other hand, you do have to plan and practice in order to achieve success, whether you're a business builder or a sprinter. How else are these situations similar?SimilaritiesWell, for one, competition is fierce. A business has other companies in its market. A person has other people in their expertise vying for the same opportunities and jobs. A runner has other athletes aiming for the gold.Next, there is a common thread in terms of goals. A business wants to be the market leader and innovator. A person aims for the top in the class, to become the most knowledgeable or have a reputation for excellence. A runner's ultimate goal is the gold. In essence, all three aim for the top spot; to be number one in their field.Lastly, motivation, inspiration and hard work are all requirements to succeed. I can't imagine a runner winning the race if he's never up early in the morning practicing. Nor will a business become number one in its industry if it doesn't have a clear vision or the necessary people to succeed. And a person will not become successful and well-respected if he only works during a full moon between the hours of 2 and 3 am. Okay, well maybe not that drastic, but you get my drift!DifferencesThe most relevant distinction between businesses and athletes is the idea of false starts. Starting before the official whistle isn't allowed during races. In contrast, false starts are a common practice in the business world. No business starts at the same place, at the same time as their competitors. Rather, businesses are often light years ahead in terms of new products, services, or other innovative business practices. Then, of course, the competition will analyze the success and attempt to replicate it!False StartsWell, what if false starts were allowed during races? Would it be fair? Instead, what if there was a tradeoff: the runner can start 10 metres ahead of his competition but the catch is that he would only be allowed minimal training and planning beforehand. So, chances are, the sprinter won't be in as great of shape as his opponents. Is it fair now? While we're not going to get into the ethical or legal issues with false starts, it raises an interesting point. What if, instead of: "Ready? Set. Go!", we had:Ready? Go! Tweak! What does this mean? What does it entail? And how will you be directly affected?Let's understand the "Ready? Go! Tweak." concept a little more.In almost all cases, it's better to start a race ahead of your opponents. When you're ahead, you have the breathing room to make mistakes and improve, while still remaining in the lead. But how do you actually start ahead of the pack? It's simple:Go before you're set. That's the whole concept of "Ready? Go! Tweak." summed up in a few words. It's the idea of going live with the best point-in-time information and also with the understanding of the potential risk of launching with reduced planning. You don't want to hang onto a project for too long since stalling could be far too damaging in the long run. While we're not debating whether planning is necessary in order to succeed (there's no doubt it is), we need to discuss the extent of the planning required to succeed."I don't think about risks much. I just do what I want to do. If you gotta go, you gotta go." --Lillian CarterIs it necessary to plan out each and every stage of the project in extreme detail in order for you to succeed? If so, than this concept isn't quite what you're looking for. If you're able to adopt the "do it first, tweak it later" philosophy, then "Ready? Go! Tweak." is right for you. And you just might find yourself with a huge advantage later on. You would have planned less during the initial stages of the project, but overall, you were able to get instantaneous feedback and finalize your plans along the way; a process I call: Spot Planning.Spot Planning Spot Planning is the process of creating plans and making decisions concurrent to launch. It's on-the-spot decision making as opposed to pre-planning. It gives you the flexibility of deciding on-the-go without stalling or disrupting progress. The key to this is the effectiveness of the spot planners.Spot planners are able to:* Understand the time implications of a project * Make quick and accurate decisions * Thrive in ambiguous situations * Deal with many stages of a project at once (planning, implementation, tweaking, promotion, etc.)Do any of those characteristics describe you? I hope so!Tweaking Performance One Shot at a TimeLet's go through another example to reinforce the idea behind tweaking. Imagine that you're brand new to archery and you're taken out to a controlled shooting environment. The instructor will give you a prize if you can hit the target. Then you're given two options:Option 1: You have 1 arrow, so you must aim carefully before you shoot. Once you've shot that single arrow, it's gone! Boom! Bye, bye! So in order to succeed, you'll probably want to take as much time as you'd like to make sure the shot goes as planned.Option 2: You have 100 arrows, but you're not allowed to aim as carefully before you shoot. Instead, you're only allowed to shoot and tweak your performance after every shot. In essence, you'll be continually improving with each arrow fired. By the 100th shot, you'll be more accustomed to the angles, environment, wind and other factors. Odds are better that you'll hit the target with 100 chances than with only one."Each trial brings progression, and only through progression will success be born." --Ronnie NijmehIn reality, you may not be given 100 chances to succeed, but the key point is that there's an opportunity for trial and error in most business and personal experiences. So use these opportunities wisely! The importance of tweaking your idea, product, or service each time around can't be stressed enough. Did it work the first time around? If so, you know what may work in the future. If not, find out what needs improving, tweak it, then try again.PerfectionismYou can't always be perfect. You can't always write the perfect report, have the perfect product, or simply "be" perfect. You're prone to make mistakes and have flaws (whether major or minor). But that shouldn't stop you! Acknowledge that you can't always be perfect and use the effort to learn, grow and adapt."Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." --Thomas A. EdisonIf you prolong the planning stage in search of "that perfect ending" or "that perfect feature" you won't be progressing on to new levels of success. And if only you're willing to let go, you may realize just how close you are to success! Parents, doesn't this sound familiar (perhaps when your child moves away for the first time)?Tough QuestionsIt should be noted that not all initiatives should utilize the "Ready? Go! Tweak." technique. I wouldn't say that a car company could "tweak" their faulty brakes after it's been released to the public. Nor would you want to experiment in an already established and competitive market. So ask yourself:In your business, project or venture, is it possible to begin after the minimum amount of planning? What are the negative effects of doing so? Will you be slingshot into the lead if you use the "Ready? Go! Tweak." and "Spot Planning" techniques? Are you able to afford making mistakes or deferring decisions until after the launch date? Are you working with a smaller, more adaptable team?If you're in a position to launch with the minimal amount of planning and are willing to tinker along the way, you just might find yourself in first place when all is said and done. Can you do it?© Copyright 2004About The AuthorRonnie Nijmeh, ACQYR.com. The ACQYR team provides the masses with witty yet strategic ideas leading to self- improvement and growth. How I Changed The World

Author : Leslie Fieger
There is no substitute for direct personal application. Information or knowledge will not change your life. Wishful thinking or daydreaming will not change your life. It is in the application of knowledge that power is secured and exercised.Almost all people want to change the world. Some want to change the whole world; some only want to change their own personal environment. Anytime you want more out of life, you are expressing your desire to change the world, at least your little comer of it.If you want to change your world, you must first change yourself. How? By changing the way you think.People everywhere are clamoring for more. All want to have more of what life has to offer. It is, however, first necessary to become more. Becoming more is accomplished by asserting your will in harmony with infinite potentiality; by choosing to make the direct personal application; by choosing to change who you are.Nothing in the universe is stagnant. It is either expanding or contracting. Life is not static either. It is either in the process of becoming or in the process of dying. Scientists use the term entropy to describe the tendency of all things to come to an end. When something is actively becoming more, they say it is anti-entropic. Another way to express this is to say that nothing ever stays the same.It is impossible for you to stay the same. You are either enhancing yourself or you are in the process of degrading yourself. If you do not consciously take control of your personal power to choose and create your own destiny, then you have given up to the process of death and degradation, to entropy. It is the choice between being a creator of the circumstances of your life and being just another creature of circumstance. It is the choice between power and impotence. It is the choice between being self-actualized or being a victim.Victims complain about the hand that life has dealt them; self-actualized individuals figure out how to deal from their own deck. Victims focus their attention on externals in the world without and complain about the wounds that the world is inflicting on them; self-actualized individuals focus their attention on themselves and the world within, and then, go about making their mark on the world. Those who are stuck in the condition of being creatures of circumstance ramble on about the need to change the world; those who have decided to become creators of circumstance enter into the silence of their own potentiality and focus on changing themselves. And what is found is, that when you focus on changing yourself, the world automatically changes along with you. The world without is the reflection of the world within.Take charge of who you are becoming. Change your method of thinking by conscious choice. Change your subconscious programming by consciously chosen repeated affirmation. Change your view of life by concentrated creative visualization. It is really as simple as becoming proactive instead of being reactive. Connect with who you are, with spirit, with universal consciousness. Go within. Enter into the silence. Visualize that which you desire. Believe that you already have the thing thought of. Be grateful. This is the direct personal application that leads to the claiming of and the exercise of your own true power.**This article was excerpted from the eBook, The Initiation© Leslie Fieger. The True Key to Prosperity

Author : Jill Ammon-Wexler
To have a high probability of becoming prosperous, you have to start with one very important decision! What are you offering to give, in return for achieving your goal? One of your most important assets is your ability to creatively determine what you have to offer that other people will pay for. This is the ultimate source of prosperity, unless you manage to win the lottery or inherit money, of course.** Cultivate a "Beginner's Mind"Your mind is infinitely more subtle and creative than you realize!
And sometimes it pays to "sneak up on it" when trying to solve a problem. What would this involve? Approaching a problem of question with a totally open and flexible "beginner's mind."Suppose, for example, you are an expert in vertical take off and landing aircraft. And suppose you are looking for a new, creative approach to hovering.Obviously you could drag out technical texts and the latest journals in your field and pour over them. That could be a good starting point. But suppose you instead chose to be a "beginner," and make the assumption that anything is possible regarding hovering.I wonder what insight might come to you if you asked yourself how a mosquito approaches hovering –- or perhaps a speck of dust that seems to weightlessly float in the air current above your desk?Is it lighter than the air? No? And yet it floats and hovers. Since you are a "beginner," can you assume your aircraft could do the same thing? Could it defy gravity?Or pick one common assumption in your field – one "everyone" subscribes to like "you must have an ezine and subscriber list to be successful on the web."What it they are all wrong? What if the truth is the exact opposite. Black is white, and white is black. What would this mean? How can you apply it? Do some "beginner's mind" brainstorming, and don't reject your "crazy" ideas. Reflect on them!** Boost Your Mind PowerA great way to build mind power is to continually feed your mind new ideas and concepts. Get onto the cutting edge of your field of interest. In our rapidly exploding information age, knowledge is the key to success. The interesting thing about building up your knowledge in your field is this: The more you know, the more competent you will become. And the more competent you become, the greater your sense of self-esteem and confidence. This equals increased personal power –- the sure mark of an achiever on the road to prosperity.BUT… many very successful people insist it's equally important to read and study totally outside your field. Read a comic book. Watch a garden program on TV. Go to a horse race. Challenge your mind to grow and expand. Bill Gates plays chess and bridge.** Be Willing to Cut Your LossesAccording to the American Management Association, at least 70% of the decisions we make regarding our lives and our businesses or professions will turn out to be wrong in the long run.So how is it that some people still manage to end up so prosperous?
The answer is simple. Those who rise to the top in life are willing to cut their losses if a decision proves wrong. They are willing to admit they made a mistake, and move onto a new path.To rise to the top in your own life, develop the skill of looking dispassionately at your decisions. If new information or results light proves your decision isn't working, be willing to abandon it and try something different. There's no sense kicking a dead horse, after all. The horse won't get up and pull your cart, and you'll just bruise your toes!** Your Most Valuable AssetThe greatest source of wealth you have is right there in your skull. And remember that modern neuroscience has now proven that our brains never cease to grow and change –- regardless of our age! What you need to become truly prosperous is a flexible, active, creative brain –- and the courage to commit to your ideas.Since there is virtually no limit on the knowledge you can acquire, and the creativity you can develop, why not just "go for it?"What you have between your ears is far more valuable than your bank account. Money is always out there looking for ideas.Your personal ability to build your brainpower, and unlock your creativity, is the true key to prosperity. How to Get Rich

Author : Dawn Fields
Got your attention, didn't I? I figured that
title would get you to sit up in your chair
and take notice. How to get rich? Hmmmm, let's
take a second and think about how nice and
wonderful it would feel to "be rich."Take a second and think about if for a minute.
How would your life be different if you were
"stupid" rich (stupid is slang for "ridiculously")?
I want you to close your eyes for a few minutes
and imagine exactly how your life would change
if you had, let's say ten million tax-free dollars.
No let's go higher, let's say one billion tax-free
dollars, and you had it right now.How would the place where you presently live
look if you were a billionaire? Would you move
into a completely different zip code? How about
the places where you shop? Would that change?
Would your clothes, shoes and accessories look
different? What about your hobbies and interests?
Would they change? How would you look? How would
you feel?I don't just want you to imagine it;
I want you to FEEL it.Rich people FEEL different than middle class
or poor people do. How would you FEEL if you
were crazy rich? How would you feel if money
wasn't an option? How would you feel if you
never had to stress over money ever again?
Perhaps if you were straighter than straight,
there wouldn't be so much hate.Perhaps you like to travel, but because of money,
aren't able to take the type of vacations and stay
in the types of hotels that you would really like
to stay in. Imagine, for a moment, that you are on
your dream vacation enjoying yourself. Imagine how
you would FEEL.Take a second and picture, in your mind,
the life that you would have if you were a billionaire. You want to know how to get rich? Well, this
is how you start. You start by visualizing the
life that you desire to have. You not only
visualize it, but you FEEL it. You get really
emotional about it. In order to be a billionaire,
you must first FEEL like a billionaire—act like
a billionaire, think like a billionaire. In order to attract anything into your life,
you have to FEEL it first. It's all a part
of the Law of Attraction. Whatever you are
vibrating towards attracts its way into your
life. No, you can't just do this exercise once
and five minutes later you are a billionaire.
You have to think, act, and behave like a
billionaire over and over and over again until
it becomes your reality. It works the same way with every single thing
that you want in your life. If you want the
perfect relationship, you will have to first
visualize and FEEL what the perfect relationship
means to you. You have to visualize it in your mind,
feel it in your bones, and focus on it, over
and over and over again. You have to do this
enough that the perfect relationship feels as
if it is on its way to you. You have to always
have your mind focused on the perfect relationship.
If any thoughts come to you that are different
than anything that you have visualized, you must
stop that thought, at once, and put your mind
back on the perfect relationship. If you want the perfect job, you must visualize
what the perfect job would be for you. You must
feel how it will feel to be in the perfect job.
You must keep your mind focused on the perfect
job and eventually; the perfect job will attract
itself to you.Changing any aspect of your life is as simple
as changing your thoughts. Changing your thoughts
is as simple as visualizing what you want and
getting emotionally involved with your visualization.
Visualizing it so much that it becomes a part of
whom you are, so much a part that you behave,
think and become your thoughts. How do you get rich? You start by using your
imagination and visualizing yourself as rich.
Keep your mind focused on being rich and never
let any contradictory thoughts enter your mind,
regardless of what "reality" may be telling you.
The law of attraction, which works at all times,
will eventually attract to you the thoughts that
you vibrate with the most.Dawn Fields is a Motivational Speaker, Life Coach and Author. She helps you discover and live your life's purpose in a down-to-earth, easily comprehensive type of way. What is Failure Anyway?

Author : Nan S. Russell
Does it surprise you that only 400 cokes were sold the first year; Albert Einstein's Ph.D. dissertation was rejected; Henry Ford had two bankruptcies before his famous success; or Ulysses S. Grant was working as a handyman, written off as a failure, eight years before becoming President of the United States?Rodin couldn't get into art school on three occasions yet became a great sculptor; Abraham Lincoln lost seven elections before winning the Presidency; Babe Ruth stuck out 1,330 times in route to hitting 714 home runs; and Oprah Winfrey publicly failed several diet attempts before becoming an inspiration for looking great after fifty.Setbacks, disappoints, rejections and unsuccessful attempts were not failures to these people. They were steps to their success. That's the difference between people who are winning at working and people who aren't. How you deal with your setbacks (big or small) will determine your results. You see, failure is not the lack of success. Failure is staying down when you trip or stumble. It's giving up, checking out, or shutting down.I wasn't a failure when I was fired from my first professional job, although for awhile I felt like one, and I could have been if I'd lost my confidence and given up on my career aspirations. I wasn't a failure when I was passed over for a coveted promotion I'd worked years for, but I could have been if I'd let that setback determine my future. And I wasn't a failure every time I pitched an idea that got turned down, but I could have been if I'd stopped pitching ideas. You see, in twenty years in management, for every "yes" I've gotten in my career that's visible, there's least five "no's" that aren't. For every success I've achieved, there's at least as many misses. Yet when we look at other people's successes, we miss the struggles, frustrations and disappointments that came before them, so we think their success was easy. How you view your disappointments, falls, and setbacks will impact your success. Do you see them as stepping stones or brick walls? People who are winning at working live Ralph Waldo Emerson's words, "Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories."People who are winning at working don't blame others for what's happened to them, and they don't use other people's definitions for success and failure. They use their own. They know it's not failing to miss their mark, change paths, re-assess goals, try something new or adjust direction. To them, failure happens when they stop trying to achieve their personal best.(c) 2005 Nan S. Russell. Perseverance - How To Quit Quitting

Author : Steven Gillman
The Definition Of PerseveranceFrom a dictionary: "Persisting in or remaining constant to a purpose, idea or task in spite of obstacles." Notice it doesn't start, "Wisely persisting..." Perseverance can clearly be a both a good thing and a bad thing. Remember that when you find yourself wanting to quit something. Quitting might be the wisest choice.Of course, the problem with the idea that you should quit when something isn't worth the effort, is that it's often used as a rationalization. It comes to mind when the effort is difficult, but really is worthwhile. It's confusing at times, so how do you wisely persevere? There are three important aspects to consider.Keys To Wise Perseverance1. Self awareness: Notice when you look for excuses, rather than truth. Are you letting fear or laziness cause you to quit or procrastinate? If honestly watching yourself is difficult, explain your reasoning to a friend. Close friends may be more likely than you to know when you're rationalizing. (Think about it from the other direction and you'll see this can be true.)2. Costs and benefits: To wisely persevere, you need to see the costs and benefits of what you are doing. If moving to Hollywood to become a star is going to cost you your business or family life, you have to see that clearly before you decide. An honest and good decision requires honest and good information.3. Motivation: Once you've made a decision, and you're sure you made it for the right reasons, you have to motivate yourself. In fact, perseverance requires that you regularly re-motivate yourself. Write goals down, do daily affirmations, and whatever else you have to do.Habit is the most powerful secret of success. Practice watching yourself to make self-awareness a habit. Practice analyzing costs and benefits objectively, and practice motivating yourself. By the way, there are many good motivation techniques, so if what you're doing doesn't work - go read up on them and try something else. That's perseverance.Steve Gillman writes on many topics including brainpower, weight loss, meditation, habits of mind, creative problem solving, generating luck and anything related to self improvement. Why Success is a Science

Author : James Ray
My studies of the highly successful prove that they continually achieve their results by doing "certain things in a certain way." I have also found that "like causes produce like effects." Therefore, if you and I consistently employ the same thought processes and actions of these highly-successful individuals, we must produce the same results. This is why success is an absolute science. If you apply the principles (thoughts and actions) of peak performers, you will accelerate your sales and life results far beyond your current level of achievement. Put it to the test.In his best-selling book, Psychocybernetics, Dr. Maxwell Multz talks about our daily actions being the direct result of our habits. Since your actions are the cause of your results, it is fair to assume that your habits are what ultimately create the results you obtain. Habits are the things you and I do naturally and automatically, without thinking. These habits have been conditioned at a very early age and are now collected in our unconscious mind. According to Multz, if you want to change your results, you must begin to form new habits. In other words, you must change the things you do automatically.Your current thinking regarding your abilities, your product and your industry is habitual -- and we call that programming. This programming is buried in your unconscious mind, and it drives your behavior on a daily basis. These programs, or mindset, came from outside sources and we often accept them without question. Many times our mindset contains lack and limitation because a parent, teacher, coach, or another person we respected wanted to protect us from disappointment. They told us to "be realistic," "don't expect too much," "life is hard" and many other disempowering beliefs. The moment you accept their programs, they drive your behavior and often limit your results. Following are the first steps in building the habits of a top sales performer. Habits that will drive massive action and create incredible results!

Set a clear and measurable goal.Make it one that you are excited about accomplishing. The human spirit will not invest itself in mediocrity -- so if you want to succeed in overcoming limiting habits, your goal must create passion! As you set your goal, two things are important: it must be specific and measurable. Write "I am making $70,000" versus "I want to make more money." When your goal is measurable you will know exactly when it is accomplished.Write your goal in the present tense. This will cause you to fully associate to the achievement of your goal. Your unconscious mind is totally deductive, and therefore, it accepts anything that your conscious mind gives it without question. Consequently, correct phrasing is imperative. Write your goal as "I am so happy that I earn a minimum of $70,000 per year" versus "I want to earn $70,000 per year." Write your goal as if you already have it right now.Write your goal every single day, carry it with you everywhere you go, and read it as often as possible.Remember, you are developing habits of the highly successful -- new ways of thinking and acting. Therefore, if you get tired, or you find yourself thinking this step is redundant, realize that it has taken years to create your current programming and it will take concentrated effort for it to be replaced.Take action and make daily decisions with your goal in mind.In other words, ask yourself the question "What decision would I make right now or what action would I take right now as a $70,000 income earner?" When you answer the question -- act! If you act based upon your current status you will continue to create your current results.

Any time you experience frustration with these action steps, realize that it is caused by your old programming trying to push you back into old behaviors. The mark of a master is the person who has the ability to give themself a command -- and then follow it!Commit to these 4 steps for 30 days. I promise it will make a positive impact on your sales and life results.James Arthur Ray is a best-selling author, leading entrepreneur and wealth-building expert. Success: 10 Tips to Make Failure Work for You

Author : Jeff Herring
1)Failure is normal.Everyone has faced failure. Some people talk about their failures. Some people don't talk about their failures, which makes it look like they never fail. Don't believe it.2)Define or refine.Failure can define you or refine you. If you quit, you have allowed failure to define you. If you keep going, learn from it and get stronger, you have used failure to refine you.3)Learn from it.Every failure has something to teach us, if we will only be teachable. To be teachable we need to ask good questions such as"What contributed to this failure?""What can I do differently and/or better next time?""What's obvious now that I couldn't or wouldn't see before?"4)Change your definition of failure. We live in an either/or culture. Either you totally succeed or you completely fail. Many times it's neither. In baseball, you are considered very successful if you hit the ball one out of every three times you come up to bat.5)Redefine what failure means to you.A failure is simply evidence that you took a shot at accomplishing something, that you want to be a doer instead of just a talker. Most people are just talkers. They believe their own talk and then accomplish little, if anything. If you have failed, it can mean you are a doer instead of a talker.6)Successful people fail often. How can you be successful and fail often? You become successful by taking risks. Risk implies that you might fail. Otherwise it would not be called risk-taking; it would be called sure-thing taking. Babe Ruth was the strikeout king of baseball at the same time he was the home-run king of baseball.7)Build on your failures. Many of the great success stories are built on what was learned from failure or the motivation that can come from failure. Michael Jordan failed to make his high school basketball team. He seems to have built on that failure fairly well. You and I can, too.8) Don't fear failure. The fear of failure holds us back from doing many of the things we would like to do.9) Give up your belief in failure.A wise person once said"Failure? I've never encountered it. I've just learned lots and lots of ways that don't work, and turned that into a few successes."10) Never, ever give up.An ancient Japanese proverb suggests that we are to"fall down seven times, get up eight."For more tips and tools for success visit Tools for Successful Living

Creating Success - A Balance of Thinking and Doing

Author : Edison Fullbrook
Why is it that most people still equate being successful with having pots of money? Why attaining as much money as possible seems to be the Holy Grail of Western Society?Whether you attain an excess of money just to keep it safe in a bank, or in a tin under the bed, sooner or later you will realize that it is just a 'medium of exchange'. We use it to buy the things that we want in life. So for this reason money is not a goal it is a means to a goal.Okay nothing earth shattering in that statement, but the reason people strive to get as much of it as possible is simply for their security. People feel safe if they can protect themselves against the uncertainty of the future. So how do you go about finding sufficient monies to cover uncertainties in the future, or to help attain our goals without going as far as Bill Gates, Donald Trump or the Sultan of Brunei? We all know that you can enjoy a very healthy life with far less money than this. But how? There are those people who advise that 'positive thinking' will bring you the wealth that you want. There are also as many people that acquire wealth by aggressive means, by abusive techniques of 'rip them up and spit them out'. As well as a good honest days work.Whatever category you place yourself in at the moment think about this. There are as many unhappy, cynical, skeptical millionaires as there are not so rich people, and just as many unhappy, skeptical poor people. So the attainment of money for it's own sake doesn't automatically bring fulfillment.Money should be used as a tool to help you achieve your goals (and it's not the only tool either). So which way is the correct way?The answer is that they are all correct in that they all use the same tools to reach the objective. Weather you are a highly motivated sales executive, or a visualization expert, or for that matter an extortionist, during your endeavors you will be using the same universal law of 'emotional attachment'.If you go for the 'kill' in the way you achieve your goals, or if you visualize your goals you will, rightly or wrongly, feel an emotion of happiness, fulfillment, excitement, etc either, before, during, or after the event. If you look back at the events in your life, if you recall some of your favorite, and not so favorite, memories you will realize that you remember those memories in direct proportion to the strength of the emotion attached to
them. The bigger the joy/disaster the bigger the emotion attached to it. Even the small things in life like a good book, a movie, taxes, an argument with a loved one, will all provoke an emotional response. So can we deduce from these findings that it is not necessarily the way you go about acquiring the things you want, or the goals that you have set yourself, but the strength of the emotion you attach to your goal?Well, Yes and No!Yes you need emotions attached to your goals, but you need to attach the good ones.No because emotions alone will not get the job done. The other question that this line of thinking brings is: How can you have an emotional attachment to something that hasn't yet happened? This is where the thinking comes in, you have to think about your goal before it can happen. This is true for everything in our lives, from making a pot of coffee to planning a holiday, even you were just a 'twinkle in your Fathers eye' (a thought) before you came into existence.I would go as far as saying that thought is the only creator. If you get the thinking right then everything else will fall into place.
The Doing will always follow the thinking.
The Thinking is empowered by attaching emotions.
The Emotions give thoughts credibility.A balance of all these can bring you all that you want in life. Now that you know how important thinking is in relation to everything that you do, you must get this right for everything else in your life to work correctly.
This is a fundamental law of life; this is why so many people go through their lives always wanting and needing, but never achieving. They get their thoughts all mixed up.If you ignore how to control these principles everything else turns to 'chance', even people who start correctly can be led astray of their goals, by harboring the wrong thoughts. It's never going to work! I don't deserve this! It's not my fate to be successful! What these 3 thoughts and all the other similar thoughts are doing is slowly changing your mind. The type of person that thinks like this is the type that thinks others are luckier than they are. NOT SO.I believe it was Jack Nicholson the golfing icon that gave the reply to an offensive reporter who quipped, "That was a lucky shot". The reply came back swiftly "Yes! It seems the more I practice the luckier I get"There is no such thing as luck, just practice of the principle of thinking it through.Learn how to think it through
and achieve what you want in life.
Edison Fullbrook has details of how.

How To Get As Lucky As J. Paul Getty

Author : Saleem Rana
J. Paul Getty appeared to be incredibly lucky, but it was a luck which, in many ways, he engineered. Instead of continuing on a well-structured career—-that of the U.S. Diplomatic Services—-he made a detour to the rich oil fields of Oklahoma. There he had the difficult task of raising money, which he did by working and borrowing. He then took care of his funds, by spending them frugally. Initially, he hit a number of dry wells, but one speculation paid off for him. This last speculation was a calculated risk. Yes, he was lucky, but he also did his best to attract that luck.A notable feature in his "luck" was his decisiveness. After reviewing the geological data, he decided to act on it. The data gave him odds on success, but it didn't guarantee anything. He could have continued to investigate, postponing the decision to act. But, in his own words, he did not want to be "like one of those government commissions that are afraid to make a decision. They hold hearings, collect facts, stew and fuss and keep very, very busy for months and months. After a while you know it's just a sham. The appearance of action is just a front to hide inaction."When you take chances, you risk defeat, you risk loss, but unless you play the game you may never win either. Playing to win also means willing to lose. Indeed, J. Paul Getty lost first before he won. However, money management enabled him to continue despite his losses. And because he only had small losses, he was able to keep enough resources to stay in the game.Successful investors on Wall Street advise new investors never to gamble with their grocery money, because it has a twofold effect: one, it jeopardizes their well-being; two, they are nervous when they invest and this clouds their judgement. In your own life, you can use the following checklist to be a 'luckier' and more prosperous person.1. Find some area that needs investment of time, money, energy, and skill.
2. Calculate the risks.
3. Estimate the rewards.
4. Find the time, raise the money, harness the energy, and learn the skills.
5. Manage your resources so that you only take affordable risks.Above all, remember that winning often involves risking, but risking does not mean gambling. When you gamble, you don't evaluate much information and you use all your resources. When you take risks, you review all the available information and only commit what you can afford to lose.Dr. Abraham Weinberg, a prominent psychiatrist, once commented that passive people "tend to let life happen to them instead of using its opportunities in an asserive way. Often they are afraid of change itself, even change without risk. They tell themselves, 'I'm afraid of going into this new situation,' even when the situation holds no objective terrors except its newness. Instead of examining the situation and finding what the risks actually are, they simply drop out by saying, 'No, it's too much of a gamble.' It may not be a gamble at all. They are only making an excuse for staying in some familiar territory."Resource BoxSaleem Rana got his Masters degree in psychotherapy from California Lutheran University. How to Achieve Financial Freedom and Success

Author : Entjik Jeffrie
Many people want to become successful and financially free, but not very many of them are willing to pay the price of their success and freedom. I have talked to a lot of millionaires and listened to their wisdom. Most millionaires have clear written goals in their life. They understand that when there is no target or goal, it will be very hard to aim at a target or a goal that doesn't exist. They are where they are today because they were willing to pay the price of their freedom. They also understand the power of charity. A generous and giving heart brings prosperity and wealthyIf a person watches TV and plays video games 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, you and I can easily predict where they person is going to be in 5 years. If a person keeps eating fatty food, junk food, sweets and never exercise. You can be sure that person will become overweight in time if he/she keeps doing the same thing over and over for years. If that person wants to be successful and financially free, he/she may have to change his/her daily habits, because what you do daily will determine your future. If you love to waste your time and love to make excuses, it's time to make the move, start investing in your mind, body and soul! You must discipline yourself in order to create positive habits, because your daily habits will determine your future. How do I invest in our mind? First of all, fill your mind with useful information. What's coming in, it will come out. If you want to be financially free, there are a lot of books, tapes, and videos that will teach you how to do it. If you want to be good in Real Estate, there are a lot of good resources and study materials on how to do it. Stop making excuses that you can't do this and you can't do that. A baby has to learn how to crawl, before he/she can learn how to walk. I have never seen a baby that stands up and runs the first day he/she was born. They have to go through a process of growing.Take a baby step of learning and move forward toward your goals and dreams. As long as you know that you are moving forward, keep on going, you will fail and make mistakes, but try to learn from them and move on. People who never make a mistake, they never try to do anything. When you do something new, expect to fail! When you fail, it doesn't make you a failure, you learn why you fail and learn from the lesson from the failure.Get back up when you fall down. Can you imagine if all the babies in the world tell their parents that they refuse to get back up after they fall down? None of us will be walking today if we refused to get back up after we fell down when we were babies. I know that it is not an easy to stand up after you've been knocked down, it is painful, but you must stand up again! People drown because they stay in the water too long! You must get out of the water and breathe the fresh air!Find a mentor! A mentor is a short-cut toward learning; he/she may have learned things that you never learn before. You can learn from your mentor's mistakes and experience, so you don't have to go through what he/she went through. Be willing to humble yourself to sit at the feet of a mentor.Start investing in your mind and buy books, CDs and videos that will improve they way you think! Napoleon Hills said that everything starts in the mind! Your mind is greatest assets in the world; it's more powerful than the fastest computer in the world! You're responsible to program it; you can program it toward failure or success!© Copyright Pebden.com 2005, Author: Entjik Jeffrie All Rights Reserved.

Are We Really Smarter Than Nature?

Author : Sonya Green
Probably, the greatest illusion of all is the belief that man can outsmart nature, or more precisely, outsmart God. Maybe this illusion is really more of a delusion, but it sure is popular. The most obvious example of this, is in our understanding of our own bodies. Weight loss products, nutritional supplements and medications will be found in almost every home in the developed world. Billions and billions of dollars are generated, and yet, we are fat, stressed, tired, depressed and constipated. Indigestion, adult onset diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, high blood pressure, hyperglycaemia, hormonal imbalances, headaches, yeast infections, impotence and allergies are just a few of the maladies which are caused by, or maintained by, bad food choices. We just refuse to believe that food can be an answer to health. We are oh so intelligent and sophisticated, that we want scientific explanations before we will even consider such a pre-historic idea, as eating plant matter. If you tell an obese person to eat less food, and someone else offers them an appetite suppressant, then nine times out of ten, they will opt for the pill. A constipated person will avoid eating fibre, but is happy to take a laxative. We spend more on vitamin supplements than we do on fruit and vegetables. We would be horrified to see someone pour fat down the kitchen sink, but think nothing of filling our arteries with it. Our kids are bouncing off walls from the sugar they eat, but we still insist on referring to it as a treat and use it as a reward.Food is probably the easiest thing in the world to figure out. Eat when you are hungry, eat as much, but not more, than you need, and eat foods as close to their natural state as possible.Water also seems to be becoming an optional extra, and more and more people are treating it like it has become redundant. Many people have exchanged water for more popular man made alternatives, such as tea, coffee, soft drinks and alcohol which greatly compromise health and vitality. Even worse than this is the trend of almost avoiding liquid in any form. Dehydration is another cause of many health problems and still people cannot connect the dots.Light, as in sunlight, greatly influences the brain, particularly in relation to our moods and general well being, as well as being a source of vitamins and a cancer prevention agent. Many people in today's world live exclusively under artificial light, and no longer know the difference between night and day. Not only are they missing out on the health giving aspects of natural sunlight, but they may well be doing a great deal of harm by being exposed to artificial light. We may be questioning such things as radiation from microwaves, phones, computers and most electrical appliances, and yet we still insist on living within this sea of radiation, and completely neglecting the health giving rays of the sun.Air has also become an old fashioned concept, or at least a trivialized or underrated force of life. We live and work in buildings without opening windows, and rarely venture outdoors, constantly breathing in what others have breathed out, and marvelling at manipulating the seasons. Rarely, do we stop and allow our bodies to fill up on life giving oxygen, and even our idea of exercise is now restricted to an air-conditioned gym.Exercise, and indeed basic body movement, has also become superseded. Our bodies are screaming out in a language of aches, pains and stiffness. Our immune systems are compromised and our muscles are atrophied. Circulation is greatly impeded and our energy levels are plummeting down so far, that it's hard to tell if we are awake or asleep. We now use our fingers to do almost everything we used to use our entire bodies to do. Our bums are spreading across our sofas, our joints are becoming calcified and our hands are becoming deformed with R.S.I. but still we look to the medicine chest for our answers.Noise is also just another accepted fact of life. We wake up and switch on the radio, spend the day surrounded by noise, and come home and turn on the music or t.v. Occasionally, we head off to somewhere quiet for a holiday and find ourselves wondering what that strange sound is, only to realize that it is silence. Not only do we function within an external cacophony, but we very rarely allow our own minds to be silent. Consistent noise can be another stress factor, but most of us are so accustomed to it, that we rarely even notice it anymore. When noise is particularly loud or unpleasant, we can feel quite shattered by it. Jack hammers, barking dogs, bad music and partying neighbours can send us into a screaming rage, as they are noticeably stressful.Even sex has been reinvented, and once again a highly marketable commodity; a vicarious sport or entertainment for many, and to some very large degree, a form of barter in a commercial world. The very thing, which should connect people, has been reduced to just another product or service. In a myriad of opinions and confusion, we torment ourselves with shame, guilt, embarrassment and comparisons. We allow ourselves to be treated as objects and treat each other that way. We will even acknowledge that sex can be a form of violence, and accept that sexual partners are nothing more than disposable toys. People will often feel quite self-conscious about even discussing sex as a loving experience, and more often than not, find that dirty jokes and double meanings are more socially acceptable.Sonya Green is the author of Reinventing myself and a writer and producer of guided meditation CD's. Course facilitator and lecturer on personal development and healing.

Success: A Worthy Destination

Author : Earl Nightingale
The stories of people achieving unusual success despite all manner of handicaps never fail to capture our attention. They're inspirational to be sure. But they're much more than that if we study them closely. The boy whose legs were terribly burned and who was told he'd be lucky to ever walk again becomes a champion track star. The woman blind and deaf from infancy becomes one of the most inspirational figures of the century. And the poor children who rise to fame and fortune have nearly become commonplace. In this age of unprecedented immigration, we see examples of people who start off in this world with virtually nothing and within a surprisingly short time have become wonderfully successful. What sets these people apart, people with vast handicaps such as not knowing the language, not knowing the right people, not having any money? What drives the boy with the burned legs who becomes the champion runner or a Helen Keller, blind and deaf who becomes one of the most inspirational figures of our time? The answer, if fully understood, will bring you and me anything and everything we truly want, and it's deceptively simple. Perhaps it's too simple. The people we've talked about here and the thousands currently doing the same thing all over the world are in possession of something the average person doesn't have. They have goals. They have a burning desire to succeed despite all obstacles and handicaps. They know exactly what they want; they think about it every day of their lives. It gets them up in the morning, and it keeps them giving their very best all day long. It's the last thing they think about before dropping off to sleep at night. They have a vision of exactly what they want to do, and that vision carries them over every obstacle. This vision, this dream, this goal, invisible to all the world except the person holding it, is responsible for perhaps every great advance and achievement of humankind. It's the underlying motive for just about everything we see about us. Everything worthwhile achieved by men and women is a dream come true, a goal reached. It's been said that what the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. It's the fine building where before there was an empty lot or an old eyesore. It's the bridge spanning the bay. It's landing on the moon. And it's that little convenience store in Midtown Manhattan. It's the lovely home on a tree-shaded street and the young person accepting the diploma. It's a low golf handicap and a position reached in the world of business. It's a certain income attained or amount of money invested. What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. We become what we think about. And when we're possessed by an exciting goal, we reach it. That's why it's been said, "Be choosy, therefore, of what you set your heart upon. For if you want it strongly enough, you'll get it."Americans can have anything they want. The trouble is they don't know what they want. Oh, they want little things. They want a new car; they get it. They want a new refrigerator; they get it. They want a new home and they get it. The system never fails for them, but they don't seem to understand that it is a system. Nor that if it'll work for a refrigerator or a new car, it will work for anything else they want very much, just as well.Goals are the very basis of any success. It is in fact the definition of success. The best definition of success I've ever found goes like this, "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal." Or in some cases the pursuit of a worthy "ideal." It's a beautiful definition of success. It means that anyone who's on course toward the fulfillment of a goal is successful. Now, success doesn't lie in the achievement of a goal, although that's what the world considers success; it lies in the journey toward the goal. We're successful as long as we're working toward something we want to bring about in our lives. That's when the human being is at his or her best. That's what Cervantes meant when he wrote, "The road is better than the inn." We're at our best when we're climbing, thinking, planning, working. When we're on the road toward something we want to bring about. With our definition, success being the progressive realization of a worthy goal, we cover all the bases. The young person working to finish school is as successful as any person on earth. The person working toward a particular position with his or her company is just as successful. If you have a goal that you find worthy of you as a person, a goal that fills you with joy at the thought of it, believe me, you'll reach it. But as you draw near and see that the goal will soon be achieved, begin to think ahead to the next goal you're going to set. It often happens that a writer halfway through a book will hit upon the idea for his next one and begin making notes or ideas for a title even while he's finishing work on the one in progress. That's the way it should be.It's estimated that about 5% of the population achieves unusual success. For the rest, average seems to be good enough. Most seem to just drift along, taking circumstances as they come, and perhaps hoping from time to time that things will get better.
I like to compare human beings with ships, as Carlyle used to do. It's estimated that about 95 percent can be compared to ships without rudders, subject to every shift of wind and tide. They're helplessly adrift, and while they fondly hope that they will one day drift into some rich and bustling port, for every narrow harbor entrance, there are 1,000 miles of rocky coastline. The chances of their drifting into port are 1,000 to 1 against them. Our state lottery is a tax on such people. So are the slot machines in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Someone wins from time to time to be sure, but the odds are still there ... stacked steeply against them. But the 5 percent who have taken the time and exercised the discipline to climb into the driver's seat of their lives, who've decided upon a challenging goal to reach and have fully committed themselves to reaching it, sail straight and far across the deep oceans of life, reaching one port after another and accomplishing more in just a few years than the rest accomplish in a lifetime. If you should visit a ship in port and ask the captain for his next port of call, he'll tell you in a single sentence. Even though the captain cannot see his port, his destination for fully 99% of the voyage, he knows it's there. And then, barring an unforeseen and highly unlikely catastrophe, he'll reach it. If someone asks you for your next port of call, your goal, could you tell him? Is your goal clean and concise in your mind? Do you have it written down? It's a good idea. We need reminding, reinforcement. If you can get a picture of your goal and stick it to your bathroom mirror, it's an excellent idea to do so. Thousands of successful people carry their goals written on a card in their wallets or purses. When you ask people what they're working for, chances are they'll answer in vague generalities. They might say, "Oh, good health or happiness or lots of money." That's not good enough. Good health should be a universal goal. We all want that, and do our best to achieve and maintain it. Happiness is a byproduct of something else. And lots of money is much too vague. It might work, but I think it's better to choose a particular sum of money. The better, the clearer our goal is defined, the more real it becomes to us, and before long, the more attainable.
Happiness comes from the direction in which we're moving. Children are happier on Christmas morning before opening their presents than they are Christmas afternoon. No matter how wonderful their presents may be, it's after Christmas. They'll enjoy their gifts, to be sure, but we often find them querulous and irritable Christmas afternoon. We're happier on our way out to dinner than we are on the way home. We're happier going on vacation than we are coming home from it. And we're happier moving toward our goals than even after they've been accomplished, believe it or not.Life plays no favorites. Yet of one thing you may be sure, you will become what you think about. If your thinking is circular and chaotic, your life will reflect that chaos. But if your thinking is orderly and clear, if you have a goal that's important for you to reach, then reach it you will. One goal at a time. That's important. That's where most people unwittingly make their mistake. They don't concentrate on a single goal long enough to reach it before they're off on another track, then another, with the result that they achieve nothing. Nothing but confusion and excuses.By thinking every morning, every night, and as many times during the day as you can about this exciting single goal you've established for yourself, you actually begin moving toward it and bringing it toward you. When you concentrate your thinking, it's like taking a river that's twisting and turning and meandering all over the countryside and putting it into a straight, smooth channel. Now it has power, direction, economy, speed. So decide upon your goal. Insist upon it. Demand it! Look at your goal card every morning and night and as many times during the day as you conveniently can. By so doing, you will insinuate your goal into your subconscious mind. You'll see yourself as having already attained your goal, and do that every day without fail, and it will become a habit before you realize it. A habit that will take you from one success to another all the years of your life. For that is the secret of success, the door to everything you will ever have or be.You are now and you most certainly will become ... what you think about.Learn more about Earl Nightingale and his all-time bestselling programs The Strangest Secret and Lead the Field.Earl Nightingale co-founded Nightingale Conant an audio publishing company and world leader in personal development with over 2 million loyal customers.
